And there she was once more. This time it was my turn to run to the elevator as she held it open for me. This time it took her only two weeks to have feelings for Superman and while the Clark version of me was important to her, she thought Clark was gay.

And after a few months she found out Superman and Clark were the same person and we moved in together.

It was strange. Her loving the superhero side of me more than Clark. Of course, this had happened last time too, but in the first life, she had loved Clark first and somehow her being in love with Superman... Felt wrong.

Something was off from the start.

But we were as in love as ever.

We got married, started living at mom's farm when she got weaker. Gave up our jobs as reporters so we could stay together and listened to mom whine about wanting grandchildren.

This life was fairly simple. We had the same chores everyday, went to the same supermarket and celebrated the same things as always. Life was good.

At least it was until that fateful day. I wasn't alerted by the sirens, or the wheels driving by the dirt road to our house but by the firm knock on our door. I walked over and opened the door to see the sheriff.

"Good day sheriff. Everything okay?" I asked and took in his posture.

He was standing upright, which was rare he had a habit of slumping, and he was holding his hat against his chest in respect. "Mr Clark, I am so sorry to bring these news to you. There was a fire in the city spread about two blocks and it got to the day care center..."

He really didn't need to even say more. Instantly I knew what had happened. Fay had gone to the grcery store and been there for an hour now. Much longer than normally. I knew her mother's instincts and could guess what she had done. I didn't even hear my mother walk behind me, before she had bursted into tears and pressed her hand against my shoulder.

"Your wife she rushed in and... She didn't come out." The sheriff said. "I am so sorry, for your loss."

But I wasn't even there anymore. My mind was in the city. I hadn't been working with my super hearing for a while, but now it was tuned into the city on Hemingway street right around the day care center where people were crying.

I could smell the burnt wood.

Not even caring about witnesses I jumped into air and in a flash I was landing right on the familiar street. I could hear people gasping for air, and babies crying in their care takers arms. I think all the children were here. She must have got them out.

I walked into the black remains of the once happy building, smoke clouding my mind, stinging in my lungs and getting to my eyes, but I could still see and breathe. Nothing was going to stop me now.

I was looking for Fay.

When I found her, I wished I hadn't. She was lying on the ground covered my debree. She had gotten stuck under a fallen pilar. It looked like the smoke had gotten to her before the fire.

"You were a hero today." I whispered and did it again. I flew off to end in a new chance.

I tried to save her. Over and over and over. It was about the eight time when I figured out the pattern on how our time was running low. How I really had no chance of saving her. How one day my time turning will be the last time.

But it was still worth it. She was still worth it. Worth the pain I knew were to come. Just so I could have more time with her. She had to die over and over and over. And my punishment was to watch that happen.
