Chapter 7

Kaito shook his head in dissaproval. "Mochi, no. I can't. I can't let this go your way. You have to understand that I'm the one to blame for all these ruthless misdeeds!"

Mochi glares at him. "Let me finish. Do not argue with me. I must discuss the second mystery with you."

"To the people that fell into the ocean one one by one and died by drowning...the second mystery. You claim that you are the one responsible for this. Think about it. You could've killed them one by one, but you can't be the culprit. The true culprit would kill them off all at once."

Kaito gritted his teeth in frustration, hesitating, desperately thinking for a good answer. She was correct. Every single word. Everything Mochi said, was indeed, true.

"I'll say it again if I must, Kaito."

"The atrocious culprit..."

"Is not you."

Mochi sighed heavily, hanging her head momentarily before looking back up at him. Her blood was beginning to boil again, mild rage and despair slowly beginning to bubble up inside her. "...In the beginning, it was you that blindfolded me, Kaito. And by blindfold, I mean, you were killing for me, because you didn't allow me to be the one to kill. I told you, I was going to be the one to commit the murders. But you want to atone for your past sins, your past crimes, by playing the role of this wretched, so-called detective! I could only think that everything you've been telling me were all lies. Were you truly the "detective" in these crimes? No, you aren't!"

Kaito carefully approaches her, gently trying to reach his hand out to her. "Mochi, calm down. We can talk this ov-"

She swats Kaito's hand away. "No, we can't! Somebody, some disgusting, wicked soul out there is forcing us to commit these terrible offences!  And we don't know who it is, or how they're doing this! Whoever the true culprit is...they won't be satisfied until we're all dead!" Tears start to form up in her eyes. She couldn't comprehend anything, from the little details, to the lies, to the truths. She weeps as she continues on. "Why..why are you always insisting on getting yourself hurt? And think that you can protect me like this by taking on such a preposterous role? Ever since we were children, you always did such farcical things...just for me. Why? I mean...look at your one shoulder. You lost your other arm! If you just didn't save me during that....that..."

Kaito couldn't believe his ears. He was baffled by everything she spat out. He grabs her right shoulder and roughly shakes her. "No, don't you dare bring that event up, Mochi."

"You were supposed to forget about it a long time ago. I told you to forget about it!"
