Part 14 - When It's Family

Sam took a deep breath, albeit it was a bit shaky. He took the blood of out of the freezer, picking up a few more supplies along the way before making his way back to the dungeon. He brought up the first injection, releasing all the air before pressing it gently in Y/N’s veins on her wrist.

The shriek that came out of her mouth echoed through the dungeon, and Sam had to physically hold back his wince. It lasted no longer than 5 seconds, but it feel like an eternity to the guilt-ridden Winchester. “This is all your fault, Sammy,” she whispered, out of breath, and head lolling to the side. “All your fault.”

“Shut up,” he muttered weakly. Y/N, and the demon didn’t have to say anything. He knows this was his fault. It was his fault that his baby sister was sitting in front of him as a demon. It wasn’t Dean’s fault. It wasn’t her fault. It was his.

If he was less selfish, and realized just how much Dean and her sacrificed for him, none of them would be in his predicament. Lost in his thoughts, Sam didn’t hear his older brother opening the dungeon doors with Castiel following closely behind him.

“Selfish,” Y/N echoed his thoughts. “You’re selfish, Sam. You made your younger sister sacrifice so much for you- you kept taking and taking-”

“Shut up!” Dean roared. “Don’t you fucking dare pin this on him!”

“You can keep denying it all you want, but we all know that if Sam were a little more considerate of little Y/N here, none of this would’ve happened.”

Dean’s jaw clenched, torn between protecting his brother or his sister. In the end, Castiel made the decision. The angel took the long strides in front of her whilst taking off his tie, wrapping it around her mouth to stifle anything she said.

“I’ll keep watch of her,” Castiel said, narrowing his eyes at the demon that dared hurt his friends.

“C’mon, Sam.” Dean turned his back, waiting for Sam to follow him like a child who was just reprimanded. “She was wrong,” Dean told his younger brother harshly. “You can’t believe anything she says.”

Sam shook his head. “She’s right, Dean. I was a brat growing up-”

“You were a kid- I made sure you didn’t have to go through what I did… At the expense of Y/N. If anyone’s to blame, it’s me- not you.”

“Do you think she’ll ever forgive us?”

“I don’t know,” Dean muttered, his shoulders slumping in defeat.

They relocated to the kitchen, sitting on the table with a beer in hand. Neither of them having the appetite to eat. Not until Y/N was safe, and back to being human.

“You know what sucks?” Sam asked, peeling the label of his beer bottle with his fingernails.

“What?”

“I was always jealous of Y/N. Everything felt so easy around her. Everyone loved her… Well, at least that’s what it seemed like.”

“Everyone loved her because she catered to everyone else.”

Sam nodded. “She was easy to be around because she molded herself into being everything we ever needed.”
