Brother Mine

Llesynia sits sideways on Logan's lap watching the sun set as he and his "brother Charlie" chat on Logan's balcony "I started bugging my mom about who my dad was when I was, I don't know, six, seven then on my tenth birthday, my mom takes me to see Aaron Echolls in Thought Police she points to the screen and she says, "that's the guy that's your dad".."  Charlie says "she took you to see Thought Police on your birthday? did she hate you?"  Logan asks Charlie laughs then says "I'm, like, 'mom, don't screw with my head I'm ten I can't deal with the news that the guy mind-wrestling with Stallone on screen knocked you up' she was a stewardess when she met Aaron she said she met him working first class on an L.A. to New York red-eye my mom is a looker"  Logan replies "yeah, I'm sure she is" Charlie says "I didn't believe her till she showed me the checks the hush money how many kids of single parent flight-attends score the best private schools, still I'd see pictures of your family and think that life should be mine"  Logan replies "nah, you don't want it trust me"  Charlie says "no, I know, that's the thing the more I watched, the happier I was that it wasn't my family your dad cheats on your mom, it's on the cover of People your sister shoots Nicole Richie with a BB gun, Jay Leno opens his monologue with it then the murder I started wondering if something was wrong with me, you know, if this is my bloodline.... though if I could get a looker like your girl here I would be as happy as a clam!"  Logan decides to ignore the last part as he clenches his hand tightly around the beer bottle he's holding and replies "yeah, join the club.... but you can't have my woman!"  Syn mutters darkly under her breath "not that I would go for you anyway!"  as Charlie chuckles then says "nah man it's all good!.... well.... this has been great but I gotta run papers to grade"  Syn slides off Logan's lap as he replies "well, yeah, it has we'll have to do it again.... longer next time"  Charlie says "I'd like to hear about him, Aaron, the details, good or bad"  Logan replies "yeah, bad mostly"  Charlies says "there's just this void you know him.... well as I said I got papers to grade and if I get them graded by tonight, I can hit Zuma at dawn"  Logan asks "you surf?"  Charlie replies "as often and as long as I can"  Logan says softly "man, we are brothers"  Syn walks into the suite before the boys do and she could feel Charlie's wandering eyes on her as she takes her mobile out of her pocket and speed dials Veronica's number and as Logan was showing his "brother" out Syn was asking her sister in law for a favor "hey Ronica.... I hope I didn't wake you or disrupt your "homework time" but I need to ask you a favor!"  Syn says into the phone she hears Veronica chuckle then reply "sure... what can I do ya for?!"  Syn replies "Logan just met his "brother" and although one might think there's a close resemblance to the two frat boys there's something.... off about him! and I'm not just referring to the way he stares at me cause EVERY guy does that!.... I hate to tear Logan down after he's just been brought back up again with the hopes that it could possibly be true but something within me says that it's TOO GOOD to be true!.... do you think you could find out where the school is and see if the boy is really the man he says he is!?.... I'll send you a picture of the boy that dropped by this evening...."  Veronica says "sure!"  Syn replies "thanks Ronica!.... I really hope that I'm actually wrong about this! it would be nice to be wrong for a change! but something tells me that I'm not!"  then she hangs up and texts Veronica the picture she sneakingly took of the blonde boy that came to their door an hour or so prior to the phone call Logan walks over and asks curiously "what are you doing!?!"  Syn replies "texting Veronica"  Logan says "not this again!.... can't you just let me have this ONE thing!?! Jesus Llesynia!"  Syn turns and looks him in the eyes then replies with a sarcastically harsh bite "well EXCUSE ME for taking extra precautions and making sure that it's all for real and not taking things at face value ESPECIALLY when the WHOLE WORLD would LOVE to tear you down and RIP you apart just so they can feel "special"!.... you should know by now that when it comes to strangers no matter how good looking they THINK they are it's hard for me to just full on trust them! HELL I barely trust half the people I've known all my life!.... there's a reason I keep my circles small and if you want to make it even smaller by breaking up with me then go ahead!.... here!.... have your key back!"  she takes her room key out of her pocket them slams it into his chest letting the corners dig into his skin before letting it go as he cups it in his hand while staring at her in shock "you do realize that I could have easily lied and said my brother or some other person I know!?!.... and why is it that as soon as I say "Veronica" you jump to the conclusion that I was doing something behind your back!?!.... I would have told you my thoughts if you had just given me a chance but no you had to....!"  Syn says angrily then she says in a much softer voice "if I didn't care I wouldn't worry but I'm not gonna take the boys "syrupy words" the same way you did!.... Veronica made it very clear that not much was known about him and even less is known about his mother I'm guessing but I just....!"  she sighs then says sadly "I'm gonna go for a drive.... I might be back I might not so don't wait up for me"  she walks past him and out the door and he hears her mutter to herself "I really hate it when people don't listen to me until I'm actually proven right!.... because I'm a girl.... a PCHer or "worse" yet a NAVARRO!.... must be a 09ner guy thing!"  just as she reaches the door she turns around and says "once you meet up again and start telling him your life story think it over and either tell the truth or make something up but don't be surprised if I don't join you on THIS journey cause at this point in time.... I'm not so sure it's worth it!"  then she opens the door and walks the rest of the way out Logan chases after her but by the time he reaches the doorway shouting her name she was already in the elevator and the door was just about to close....
