Sienna's P.O.V

My hand fumbled for my keys. They were in my pocket somewhere. I grabbed hold of something long and metal. There they were. I did not walk up twelve flights of stairs with four heavy bags only to realise I'd forgotten my keys.

"Oh my God, I think I died and reincarnated myself walking up all of those stairs!" My best friend, Peyton exclaimed from somewhere behind me.

I fiddled with the keys inside the lock, trying to get the door to open. I shrugged and laughed at Peyton's expense, because she was terribly over dramatic. I liked it though, it was an interesting trait.

Finally the lock gave way and I was able to push the door open. It was very heavy, for health and safety reasons, but also because the owner could afford to have a door as heavy as me and Peyton combined.

"Woah." I said, looking around the lavish, modern apartment. It was huge, with almost floor to ceiling windows on one side. They gave a wonderful view of the city, and they stretched all way along one side of the open plan apartment. They let in a lot of light, despite being tinted for privacy.

"It's totally huge! And like so fancy and stuff." Peyton exclaimed again, she clearly had a way with words.

For a few minutes after that, the both of us just looked around the apartment, mostly just taking in the fact that we finally got here after about an hour of trying to get up the stairs because the elevator was being repaired, but partly in disbelief, because we were actually in Manhatton and I was going to live here, for a year.

I decided it would be a good idea to haul my bags in from the hall. Both Peyton and I huffed and puffed as we pulled the heavy suitcases filled with my stuff into the main room.

It was only after sitting down on one of the stools at the breakfast bar, I noticed a handwritten note on the table in the centre of the room. There was a vase full of fresh flowers along with it.

I went over to have a look, partly to see what the note said, but I also wanted to smell the fresh flowers.

I got up off the stool and walked quietly over to the mahogany table that marked the reception of the apartment. I could hear Peyton behind me, fingers tapping furiously at her phone, texting someone.

I picked up the little note first.

Good luck on your new adventure
Your father and I wish you every success
Looking forward to hearing from you
-Mom x

I placed the note back down on the table. There were no feelings felt being left that note. To my mother my being here was like being a client, moving in somewhere new. She always gave them flowers and a personalised note. I think it's meant to make them feel special, and like she's thinking of them, even though she isn't. It was so formal, and she definitely didn't write it herself. She hired someone to leave the flowers here and write the note. Which would have been thoughtful, except I knew my own mother. And she knew Peyton was going to be here, and so she was trying to impress my friend. Because that's what she did, that's who she was.

"Your father and I wish you every success"
I jeered silently, in my own head. That's how every child wants to be addressed on behalf of their father by their mother.

"Sienna! My mother sent a car to pick me up, I'm going to stay in a hotel tonight and I'll be going home in the morning."

I spun around, and Peyton gave me a look as if waiting for a response.

"Yeah okay, I'll come to the airport with you tomorrow." I said for lack of something better to say.

"Are you gonna be okay here by yourself?" She asks, with slightly more sincerety in her eyes.

"Yeah, don't worry about it, all I'll be doing is unpacking and I don't need any help with that."

"Great." She smiles, happy to be going off to a fancy hotel for the night. "I'll call you later and see how everything is going."

"Okay." I say as she pulls me into a hug, and then running off to make it downstairs before the car driver arrived.

I would let her stay in my new roommate's room, but he's not here and I'm not sure if he would appreciate it. Also, Peyton would probably freak if he was untidy and had mess, but every person has mess, she just had a maid to clean hers when she asked.

Not that we didn't have a maid ourselves back home, because we did, but I never let her clean my room. I knew where all of my stuff was and I didn't need her to go and move it all.

I decided to haul my heavy bags from the main room into my bedroom, so that I could start unpacking. Two boxes of my stuff was already here, since I had shipped it over last week.

I heard my phone buzz in my pocket, it was a message from Peyton.

From : Peyton Valencia
S, they have a spa here! How great is that????!!!

I laughed at how she told me all the irrelevant details of her life all of the time, but I knew she was doing it to some degree because she knew I hadn't heard from my mother yet. And that was thoughtful of her.

I decided to text my mother, instead of moping around and getting upset that she wasn't thinking of me.

To : Mom
Just got here, it's really nice. Thanks for the flowers & the note.

I took both of the boxes off of my bed and decided to unpack some of my stuff.

My roommate was no where to be found, and I was a little bit thankful for that, because I wanted to be alone for now, and just unpack my stuff in peace. I breathed a sigh of relief.
