Too Young (Travlyn Fic)

I couldn't believe it. Actually, I still can't believe it. Katelyn broke up with me? Her words echo, playing on an endless loop.

"I need... I need.... I need to break up with you."

It's so sudden and out of the blue. Just a day ago we were sitting together planning for college. Now I'm sitting on Aphmau's couch sobbing, while Aaron and Aphmau sitting besides me, trying and failing to comfort me. It's a skill Aphmau has, that Aaron, well, lacks.

"I guess I just don't understand," Aphmau says. She is clutching Aaron's hand, like if she lets go he will leave. Leave like Katelyn. He strokes her back, rubbing in small circles. "It's just.... weird. Like really weird.  And I know Kate can be impulsive, but this is a whole new level for her."

"Yeah. I mean yesterday you two were kissing in the middle of the school hallways and being all cutesy." That's where the majority of my confusion comes from. How can you go from loving one person, to breaking up with them in a day? I mean sure we argue occasionally, like everyone. And yeah it's usually about stupid things, but it's never fight level and certainly not break up level. So what happened? "And you said she was crying? Geesh man, what did you do?'

Aphmau swiftly kicks Aaron in the shin. He lets out an audible gasp of pain. Aph may be small, but she is strong.

"I don't know what I did." I take a deep breath. "I don't know. I don't think I did anything. Is it my fault?"

I think back on the pass few days. Nothing jumps out at me.

"It is definitely not your fault, Trav. Don't even think that. I mean what could you have done?" Aphmau says.

"Yeah, I was just joking." Aaron flinches away from Aph's cold glare. If only it was something I knew about, then I could fix it. But I don't know.

"What if she just realized how out of her league I am? I mean she could be dating someone like Kai."  Aphmau's eyes narrow.

"Come on, Trav. Kai is a.... well.... you know. Katelyn's not that stupid" Aphmau says. He hates Kai. He tried to date Aph. Aaron can hold a grudge.

There's a sinking feeling of hopelessness in my stomach. I mean, how else am I suppose to feel? My girlfriend just broke up with me out of nowhere. I rub my eyes with the back of my hand, tipping my head back.

"That's it. I'm going to text, Katelyn," Aphmau pulls out her phone. I hear little steps thundering down the hall. "And then I'm going to call Kacey. If anyone knows anything it's him."

"Lina, no mija. Get back here," Sylvanna's voice calls out. Alina runs up to me, giggling. Sylvanna races after her, pausing to catch her breath. She shoots me a look of sympathy.

"How you doing, Travis."

"Awful." Aaron passes me a tissue.

"Uncle Trav is sad?" Alina asks. Aaron nods.

"Hey, Lina, why don't you give Uncle Trav a hug? It's make him feel better." No it won't, but I could never say no to Alina.

"Feel better." Alina hugs me, her tiny arms embracing my legs. I lift her onto my lap.

"Oooh, your getting big." My voice shakes. She gives me another hug. "I want Uncle Trav feel better." I smile sadly at her. She's so young, so innocent.

"Thanks, Lina." She looks up at me, her brown eyes wide. Her fist collides with my chest.

"FEEL BETTER!"

"OW!" My hand flies to catch her fist before she can do it again.

"Lina, no. We don't hit. Also no yelling in the house," Aphmau says, absentmindedly. Her mouth twists into a frown. "Sorry, Travis. It's her new thing."

"Say sorry, Lina." Alina looks from Aaron to me.

"Sorry." Her face twists into a mishevious grin. "Ice cream will make Uncle Trav feel better!"

I open my mouth, just to close it again. Ice cream would be kinda nice. Maybe it would help my empty twisted stomach. I glance at Aaron who looks like he agrees, yet is still shaking his head.

"Nice try, Alina. You can't use Travis to get ice cream."

Aphmau squeals, practically throwing her phone across the room. All of our eyes fly to her.

"No shouting in the house, Mama." Aph just shakes her head, her mouth pursed.

"What is it, Babe?"

"She blocked me!" What? Aphmau and Katelyn has been friends since, well, forever. What was going on with Katelyn right now?

"Ice cream will make it better!" Both Sylvanna and Aaron sigh. I'm still in shock that Katie blocked Aph.

"Alina Lilith Lycan! I told you no already. If you ask again, we won't go visit Levin and Malachi." Alina blinks. I don't know who looks more surprised, Aph or Lina. "Lina, I'm-"

Alina howls, burying her face in my sweater. Great. I already feel awful. I stroke her head, trying to comfort her. A small sob escapes my mouth.

"It's okay, Lina. It's okay. You want ice cream. We.... we.... we can have some." Now we're both crying. Aphmau leans over, wrapping her arms around us. 

"We will find out what's going on with Katelyn, Travis. That I promise."

"We'll put the whole team on it. Luci, Garroth, Laurence, Zane, Kim. Katelyn can't hide from all of us."

"You forgot Dante," I choke out. I don't know why I'm focusing on that. Aaron laughs, though it sounds a little forced.

"Yeah. I did. He's going to hate that."

"Mama, your squishing me." Aph kisses Lina's head.

"I'm sorry, Sweets." Lina's head pops up.

"Group hug?"

"Get over here, Mom, Aaron." Two more sets of arms wrap around us. For some reason this just makes me cry more.

"It'll be alright," Aph whispers into my ear. "I promise."

But not all promises can be kept. And this one, doesn't seem very likely. Once Katelyn puts up her walls, they don't come down unless she wants them to. If Katelyn wants to keep you out of her life, you can bet she will. She always will.
