Of all the couches I've ever slept on, Aphmau's ranks in the top three for comfort level. With soft cushions and not a lump insight, the only better place to spend the night would be in an actual bed. Still I suppose it wouldn't matter if it was the rattiest couch known to mankind. It's not like I'm getting much sleep at the moment anyways. I don't think anyones sleeping. We're all waiting for news from Katelyn's dad. Waiting. All I seem to do is waiting lately.

It's as if my stomach is doing backflips. Nervous, anxious butterflies have all but consumed me in the past few hours. Rolling over onto my back, I pinch my eyes shut, trying to sleep. It won't happen I thought. Not now.

Suprisingly, it does. My mind drifts away and my last thought is, Oh, Thank Irene.

I'm standing in front of the school, absolutely starstruck. There she is. She stands besides Aphmau, the difference in height almost amusing. She. The most perfect person to ever come to existence. Not just because of her beauty though. No. She is beautiful of course. There is no denying it. With hair that falls like waterfalls down her back and eyes that shine like oceans, Katelyn is gorgeous. All the boys talk about her. They talk about her butt, about her body. Still, there's more to her and although I'll admit my interest was superficial at first, that more is what quickens my heart everytime I see her.

Still, she's a mystery to me. Perhaps that's one makes her interesting. I see how she is adored by everyone she meets, how she is smart enough to move up a grade if she wants, how she excels at every thing she does, but I don't really know her. I do know he sent Michael Daimon to the Nurses because he made a comment about her. I almost joined her. But how could I? I'm weak. Weak as could be.

It doesn't really matter anyways. She's taken. Been taken ever since I've know her.

A part of me wishes that I had the convidence to atleast talk to her, to be her friend. Katelyn isn't afraid. She will say and do what she wants. I'm around her a lot. She's Aphmau's best friend and Aphmau is my friend. She doesn't really talk to me, usually only sparing her breath to tell me off for staring. Still, I enjoy being around her.

I wish I was more like her. Less afraid. Maybe then he wouldn't be so ashamed.

My heart jumps as those clear blue eyes meet mine. Shoot. Way to be a creep, Travis.

Suprisingly, she doesn't yell at me. Instead, Katelyn bites her lip. Aphmau waves me over. What?

"Hey," I say jogging over. Play it cool, Trav. No, bad jokes. "How are you?"

"I'm good." Aphmau nods, overenergetic as per usual. "No, anime deaths so." I laugh. Katelyn doesn't say anything. Aphmau gives her a shove. She shoves her back.

"Come on, aren't you going to?" Aphs's voice trails off.

Her face goes red.

"Aphmau!"

"Katelyn!"

I'm confused. So confused.

"What?" I ask. Both girls stop their silent staring contest.

"She broke it off with Jeffery," Aphmau blurts. Katelyn squaks, indigently.

My jaw drops. A little random, but no less suprising.

"What?"

"Kate and Jeff. They broke up." There's a mischevious twinkle in Aph's eye. Oh, Irene. My face flushes.

"Huh?"

"Are you a complete idiot?" Katelyn finally says. I shake my head.

"No, just suprised." I pause. "When?"

"About a month ago. Over summer. We've been keeping it quiet." Katelyn looks away, shifting her weight from foot to foot.

Oh. She and Jeffrey seemed like a power couple, like they would never stop loving each other. Still, this means she's single now.

Get those thoughts out of your head, my lovely inner monolouge scolds. I mentally slap myself. Like Katelyn would want to go out with you anyways.

"And..." Aph nudges her. She shoves Aphmau again. I cock my head to the side. Katelyn sighs, shooting Aph one last murderous glance.

"I was wondering if you would like to come to Zoey's Cafe after school today. With me and Aphmau." My jaw drops. She's never asked me to go any where with her. It was probably Aph's idea. "Oh, wipe that stupid look off your face. We're in the same math class and I haven't seen anyone all summer anyways."

All self warnings are instantly forgotten. She's really wants me too. She could of asked anyone. This is true love in the making!

"Yeah... I'd like that,"

"Perfect," Katelyn says. She drags Aphmau away. "Hey!"

"Bye, Travis" Aphmau says.

"Bye," Katelyn says. Katelyn says. She says. I smile

For the first time I see hope.

I wake sweating. I bolt upright. Katie. My Katie. That's how it started. I hear footsteps.

"Uncle Trav?" My heart drops. Alina.

"Yeah, Lina?" I say.

"What wrong?" I smile sadly, and walk over to her. I kneel down. She's so young. So innocent.

"Nothing, Lina. What are you doing up?"

"I want ice cream!"

I laugh quietly. Oh, what I would give to be this carefree again. Oh, what I would give.

"No, ice cream for you. Not until morning," I say, lifting her up. I swing her and she laughs. "Quiet, Lina." I shift her weight, pressing one finger to my lips.
I carefully walk back to her room. There is Aaron, sleeping on an old air mattress Aph dug out. He normally doesn't get to sleep over, but Sylvanna let him tonight. Maybe they're finally bonding. She hasn't actively tried to get rid of him in years and their relationship is ambicle now. But bonding, never a bad thing.

"You good, Travis?"

Turns out he's not sleeping.

"You're awake?"

"I heard Lina. Just woke up." He gets up and takes his daughter from me. "I should of got her though."

"It was fine." Aaron raises an eyebrow. I still don't get how he does it. I flash a quick smile. "Really, I'm fine."

"Uhuh. Sure. I've seen the way you look at Katelyn. You're not fine."

He tucks Alina back into her bed.

"Yeah," I say awkwardly. "Look, I'm going to go back to sleep."

"Yeah. Sorry about Alina."

"Don't be. I was awake anyways."

Without another word, I leave. I leave to go and try to go back to sleep. I leave to try and forget about the memory, to forget about the last twenty-four
hours, for at least a little longer.
