Summary: This Japanese phenomenon is more of a optical illusion than a monster, but this mysterious fire is said to have a mind of it's own.
Behavior and Powers: Shiranui is ghostly fire that hangs out on top of water. It is said that Shiranui is the manifestation of the lanterns in the Dragon King's underwater palace. The fire is known to sway from side to side, splitting into more little fires that can spread for miles. If you were to sail onto the water and try to get to the Shiranui, apparently you could never reach them as they would always be on the horizon. Villages forbid fishing on nights when Shiranui was visible. Maybe the Dragon King didn't want any of his subjects going missing, and the lanterns helped him to see all the goings on of the humans. But that's just a theory.
