Summary: The Minotaur is the name of an awful and famous Greek beast that was murdered by the hero Theseus, the son of the Cretan queen Pasiphaë and a creature known as the Cretan Bull. Yes, that is certainly gross.
Creation and Namesake: I think we all know what exactly brings babies into this world, and this baby's birth was certainly odd. But for everyone's sake, this will not be in a more detailed story form. Instead, the tale will be paraphrased. King Minos, that cheeky little booger, prayed to Poseidon to show him his favor so he could be popular. Poseidon sent him a white bull, simply known as the Cretan Bull, to sacrifice to the sea god to show that they were cool with each other. Instead, Minos thought the beast was gorgeous somehow, and kept it. Ocean Man got upset, and cursed Minos's wife Pasiphaë to want to bang the bull. Pardon me for a second, writing that sentence made me feel ill.
Okay I'm back. Pasiphaë ordered a famous architect Daedalus, a real sweet guy, to make a hollow wooden cow so she could climb inside, lure the bull in, and...you know. Ew. Anyway, the deed was done and Pasiphaë gave birth to the Minotaur, a bundle of nightmares. Although the monster is made up of two halves that get their nourishment from milk when they're young, the Minotaur could instead only gain nourishment from human meat. So Minos chucked the thing into a giant maze of Daedalus's creation,(this man is not paid enough) and threw men and women in there every so often so they could be eaten.
Fun fact time! Minotaur is not a species. The name comes from the fact that the beast is half-bull and from Minos's kingdom. It literally just means "Bull of Minos". Another fun fact! The Minotaur was referred to in Crete as Asterion, a name that was shared by Minos's foster father. Maybe that other Asterion just sucked.
Weaknesses: Getting stabbed in the throat a bunch, like most people.
