“What were you and Chase talking about?” Cato whispers in between us ‘fighting’ in hand to hand combat training.

“Nothing really, just about-” I say.

“And LEFT,” Mr Ross says and I dodge one of Cato’s hits with my left arm.

"Don’t hit to hard!” I say, playfully slapping his shoulder,

“Preach what you teach,” He says rubbing his shoulder and I scoff and we both laugh.

“Anyway, we just talked about you, and what you two used to do before you were in a relationship,” I strike towards the left side of Cato’s head and he blocks it with his right arm which hurts me just as much as my punch would've hurt him,

I stop altogether and fold my arms across my chest,

“I hate this. I’m not an aggressive person, I don’t like it at all,” I say crossing my arms,

“Don’t worry, I know you’re not, it’s just pretend, we are just practising,” He chuckles hugging me.

“I don’t ever want to have to use this,” I say,

“Alright guys come into the center,” Mr Ross calls out and everyone collects in a circle around him. “Okay, as you all know, the Reaping is in 5 days. We will be putting up a list with who we think will be fit and ready for the games on it, tomorrow or the day after,” Mr Ross says and I step closer to Cato.

“We have a few in mind, so train hard. We need to know who can win it for district 2,” He says, a sly smile forming on his face. “So, back into your partners, tougher fighting. More kicks, more moves. Try things that could actually help you in the games. Don't be afraid to lose it,” He says, motioning with his hands and looking towards Cato at the last part,

“Actually before you all go, can I get a demonstrator?” He asks, panning our group with his eyes. “Cato, can you come here please?” He says and Cato walks forward.

If he’s good enough to do a demo, will he have to volunteer this year?

Please no, please. Relax Emerald, he isn’t 18 yet, he won’t be chosen. He won’t do it anyhow.

“I want you to pay attention. When I throw a punch or go to stab or something along those lines,” He throws a punch, which if Cato hadn’t of blocked, would of ended up in his right temple, “Like this, you block and use this opportunity, while they are distracted, to drive your fist or knife, what ever you have, straight through their abdomen,” He says, motioning with his hand to Cato’s stomach. “Okay? Try yourselves,” He says pushing Cato towards me.

“Nice job,” I say and he shoves me softly.

“Okay, and fight,” Mr Ross said.

“I could take you easy,” I tease,

“Oh really?” He strikes towards my stomach, but I block it and side kick towards his ribs. He grabs my foot and I knock his arm, causing him to let go, setting my foot down. I grab both of his hands while he is pausing for a slight moment and turn around, pulling him over my shoulder, causing him to land on the mat with a thud.

“Great work Emerald,” Mr Ross said. I didn’t realise that he and the other training coach, were standing there the whole time. Crap! What if they put me on the list? There would be no way my dad would let me ignore it.

“Thanks,” I say helping Cato up.

“Didn’t know you had it in you,” Mr Ross states walking away with the other coach.

“Neither did I!” Cato scoffs pulling me into a hug.

“Thanks. I didn’t hurt you did I?” I ask Cato.

“There is a mat under us,” He says and I look at him. “No you didn’t hurt me,” He chuckles.

“What if they choose me now,” I say taking my place across from him to start again.

“If they do, you don’t have to do it,” He says, turning around to swing, but I block,

“But my dad,” I say ‘punching’ him in the stomach,

“Tell him,” he says swinging his arm around near my head.

“I have tried,” I say twisting my body to dodge a knock.

“Well, I don’t know, I’m not psychologist or whatever you call it,” He says dodging a kick and responding with a punch. The siren/bell what ever you want to name it, sounded and we stopped. “That’s it guys, well done!” Mr Ross announces and everyone claps.

“What have you got next?” Cato asks. “Um, Home?” I say and his face looks like he just got slapped in the face. “It’s time to go home?” He asks. “Umm yep!” I say and he laughs. “Am I coming home with you?” He asks and I see Chase walking through the door.

“I think you should spend some time with Chase, he misses you,” I say nodding towards Chase. “Oh, okay sure. Did he tell you that?” He asks.

“Effectively, not in those words, but he pretty much said it,” I say placing my hand on the small of his back pushing him towards Chase. “I’ll see you tomorrow morning then,” he says, “Yep, I will,” I say leaning up to kiss him.

I watch as he walks over to Chase. He was facing the other way, so when he turned around to see Cato standing there, his face lit up and gave Cato a huge hug.
