Chapter 14 – Never Ending

“Well, it’s the boys that are left now, Clove tried to take on Aurelius, but unfortunately failed,” Claudius announces.

“The remaining two tributes will most likely be pushed together somehow, to end it,” Ceaser adds.

Every day, it starts off the same way, Ceaser and Claudius talking about the Games. I’d rather that then footage, but I would probably be the only one in Panem who would say so.

Knocks on the door interrupt my thoughts so I get up and walk over lazily to the door.

“Is this Emerald?” A man in a peacekeeper’s suit is standing at my door.

“Yes, I’m Emerald. Can I help you with anything,” I say, my stomach dropping.

“Have you been watching the games? The interviews in particular,” He says and my stomach picks it self up again, and butterflies, or lions more rather, battle in my stomach.

“Yes I have been,”

“So you have heard about the reunion? On stage,” He says and I nod, a smile creeping onto my face. “As you will know, if he is crowned victor, as soon as the games finish, the last canon is sounded, you will be travelling to the Capitol, so you can make it to the Victor’s interview in time,” He says, his voice very monotone.

“Sure, so you’re saying you want me to prepare?” I ask smiling and he nods.

“Well, I may or may not see you soon,” He says stepping back and I close the door.

The one-day Julia isn’t here I want her to be.

I run upstairs and chuck a few necessities in a canvas bag.

“That was easy,” I mutter to myself.

I throw in my best dress, in case they don’t have anything.

Another knock and I expect it to be the same peacekeeper, but it’s Julia.

“Hey!” I say giving her a huge hug. “Guess what!?”

“What?” She says, smiling.

“I am going,”

“Going where?” She says, confusion sweeping over her face.

“If Cato wins-“

“OH MY GOD!!! REALLY?” She screams standing up.

My door opens and my dad walks in.

“Hi dad,” I say pulling Julia back onto the couch.

“What are you two so excited about? Have you been watching the games?” He asks, placing something onto the table.

“Nothing,” I say and Julia slaps my shoulder.

“Did you watch the interviews?” I ask and he nods.

“So you would of heard Ceaser and Cato’s,” I say and his head snaps up to me.

“About you going to the Capitol?” He asks and I nod.

“Are you going to do what you always do and ruin it, and have all of Panem hate you? Or are you going to let me go?” I ask and he looks slightly hurt by my comment.

“I was going to say you can’t, but now you’ve said that, I will let you go,” He says and Julia and I scream.

“Thank you!” I say, running over to him and giving him a hug.

“Oh so now I’m your favourite person in the world,” He says, hugging me back.

“At the moment, yes,” I say running back over to Julia.

“Have you packed?” She asks.

“A few things,” I say and she pulls me up to my room before I can say anything else.
