"What do you want to eat?" Cato asks me.

"Whatever, I'm not fussed," I say picking up a picture of Cato, his brother and his mom.

"She is so pretty," I say and he walks up behind me,

"That's what my dad used to say," He says and we laugh. "She isn't as pretty as you though," He says winding his arms around my waist and kissing the side of my neck.

Butterflies flutter around in my stomach and I smile.

"Thanks," I say kissing him back. We stand like that for a while, and as much as I would love to stay like that forever, I remember that we are supposed to be making dinner. I pull away reluctantly, "Um, how's that dinner going?" I smile and he chuckles.

I walk towards the kitchen and tug on his shirt so he follows,

"Come on," I say shaking my head and laughing.

"What do you want to make?" I ask sitting on the bench.

"I don't know," He says looking in the cupboard.

"You're not helping!" I say laughing, "Well your not helping much either!" He says kissing me again.

"Ewww! Cato, stop it!" Chase shrieks and Cato and I both chuckle.

"It's not that bad little bro," He says ruffling Chase's hair.

"It really is," He says,

"Hey Chase," I say and he looks at me.

"Hi," He says and walks back out with a piece of bread.

"He's a bit shy at the moment," Cato says.

"I gathered,"

After dinner, which was amazing, Cato and I went on a walk through part of the district.

"I wonder what the Capitol is like," I say sitting, cuddled up next to Cato.

"I wouldn't have the slightest clue, I mean, I've seen photos, but obviously never been there," He says looking up at the sky,

"Are you going to volunteer Cato?" I say resting my head on his shoulder.

"Yeah. I reckon I could win it too," He says pressing his cheek against the top of my head.

"When?" I ask tears brimming up in my eyes,

"Next year maybe," He says. I sniff and he looks down to me.

"Are you crying?" He asks pulling away from me to look at me.

"No," I say looking to my shoulder.

"Emerald, what are you crying for?" He says pulling me into a hug. "I'm most likely not volunteering this year. I'm here for another year, and even when I do go, do you think I could let someone kill me, knowing you're back in district 2?" He asks.

"But you can't choose if you get killed, someone could kill you in your sleep or something and I love you, you're the only person I have left apart from my dad," I blubber, the tears spilling over.

"Please, don't cry," He says rocking me back and forth,

"You know," I sniff, "My mom used to rock me when I was upset," I say with a laugh,

"Really? Did it work?" He asks and I nod into his chest.

"Good," He says kissing the top of my head.

"I love you," I say, my voice being muffled by his shirt,

"I love you too," He says. "C'mon, we need to go home. It's late," He says standing up and extending his hand. I take it and stand up, wrapping his arm around me.

"Good night," He says kissing my cheek.

"Night," I say stepping backwards into my house. He turns and waves and I wave back.

Run up to him Emerald. Run up to him!

Before I know, my legs are listening before the rest of my body. I sprint forward after him and jump on his back.

"Geez Emerald," He says turning around.

"Just wanted to say goodbye and goodnight. Again," I say kissing his cheek.

"Thank you," He says and I jump off his back.

"I'll see you at training tomorrow right?" He says holding onto my hand.

"Yeah I guess,"

I sigh, "Hey, do you want to stay here tonight?" I ask and he looks at me strangely,

"C'mon, nothing's going to happen, you're just staying here with me," I say tugging on his arm.

He looks towards his house and back to me,

"Come on," I say laughing and pulling him inside.

"What will your dad say?" He whispers.

"We are not doing anything, your just staying the night," I whine, emphasis on the 'doing'. He laughs and I take him to my room.

"I don't have my training stuff though," He says standing at my door.

"Get it in the morning on the way, we'll just leave early," I say climbing under the covers. He stays at the door. "Are you going to sleep standing up?" I tease and he laughs, walking over to the other side of my bed.

"Night," I say flicking off the lamp.

"Night," he says as he lays his head on the pillow. "Thanks. For letting me stay," He says quietly. I roll over so I'm facing him. I wrap my arm across his stomach and rest my head on his chest.

"That's alright. I did ask you remember," I say and he chuckles, "Love you," I sigh

"Love you too,"

Are the last words I hear, before I go to sleep.
