Four
I try to think about what happened. I may have been calm on the outside, but my mind was just going crazy. It is something, I’ve done research on this, it’s from fear. See, Eric and I were never best friends, in fact, we’re enemies. I then re-picture the position that Luke was in once Eric hugged him, just for a minor second. Eric uses fear to control people. Just like Marcus. Evelyn uses manipulation, and Eric might be using fear and manipulation to control his family. It’s not healthy. I have to figure out a way to get Eric in trouble with the places outside the fence and all of Chicago. I know Amar, he knows others, farther outside, but, not all of North America.. I want to torcher Eric. Use his own crimes against him. But, that’s manipulative and I don’t really know. I just don’t want to be like either of my parents. But, sometimes, you have to do you you have to do, even if it bothers you.
I see Luke walk out of someplace with Eric. He probably calls Eric ‘Sir’ I know I did with Marcus. What is wrong with me? I feel tapping on my shoulder. I quickly turn around and I see Tris.
“Tobias, you’re tensed up, like you’re thinking about something…. like something Tragic or painful.” Tris says.
“Yea, I know Tris. I’m…. Observating. Ya know, like how I normally do?” I say, unsure. I’m sure she won’t buy my excuse.
“Who you observing?” Tris asks, innocently.
“You-Know-Who.” I say. What is up with me being vague!? I haven’t been vague ever this year!
“No, I don’t. I can’t read minds, ya know.” Tris says. I can’t help but laugh.
“You seem like you can, dear.” I say through laughs. She gives me a dirty look, I SHOULD obey, but I don’t want to.
“Tobias…. Stop.” Tris says irritably.
“Okay.. I’m observing the two over there.” I say, nodding my head toward Eric and Luke, vaguely.
“Okay, what are you thinking?” Tris asks.
“I’m thinking that Luke is abused terribly by Eric. I’m coming up with a plot to get Eric in trouble throughout North America.” I whisper to Tris.
“Four! You’re crazy!” Tris exclams. She generally uses ‘Four’ when she’s either A- mad at me or B- thinks that she could be free and shout it? Based on her expression, it is Option A. She’s mad. Great… I brace myself for a hard punch in my shoulder or face or gut. Depends on what mood she is in, or how mad she is at me. She punches me in the….. face. I rub my jaw where she punched me at, she hits harder than she likes to think.
“Ow, Six…” I say through gritted teeth. She smiles and walks away somewhere. Just like she did when she slapped me across the face.. I need to talk to Luke, about Eric. I see him walk like nothing had happened, but clearly something has. I remember those LOVELY days when my dad would abuse me, by whipping the metal part of his belt for a punishment, because he couldn’t beat me up, those where only on Ceremony days, where I had to walk up infront of everyone.
“Luke! Come outside, can we talk?” I say to him. He looks at me like he’s hurting on the inside but he shakes his head. Eric walks up to him and acts all friendly. He’s anything but friendly.
“Sorry Four, but Luke can’t talk to people like you.” Eric says.
“Really? Then why is he talking to you, when you’re worse than me?” I ask. I feel an eyebrow cock.
“He’s my son! I think I should have the right to speak with him, don’t you?” Eric asks, his tone is something of what people would find innocent.
