Unexpected Guest

As we sat enjoying one another's company, the eyes which were gazing upon us from the trees were left unnoticed. The only thing that clued us into their existence was when a female stepped forward.

Both of our heads snapped towards her direction, both angry about the rude intrusion. Her blonde hair covered part of her face obstructing her identity from me, she called out, "Princess, it's a pleasure finally meeting you. Your father is awaiting your arrival."

As she gracefully descended onto one knee, I questioned who she was and how she knew my dad.

"I was just with him this morning," I started confused, "He also would have sent someone I know and I most certainly don't know you!"

The woman tilted her head and said, "They haven't told you have they? Those bastards act so high and mighty when they've been lying to you all this time!" She quickly shut her mouth and apologised for speaking out of turn.

I looked to my right to see Greg realise who was standing before us. "Stay away from us," he growled.

The female was soon joined by a man, stood slightly behind her, who seemed impossibly tall. "Princess," his deep voice boomed across the space between us, "I understand this will be hard to believe, but the person you know as your father is not actually your father."

"What are you talking about?" Greg sounded off beside me.

"Before you were born, there was a treaty. One of the conditions was that the two kingdoms would share a child, that child being you. Before we could make an announcement, your mother betrayed us," he clenched his fist, "She ran away with you and her then boyfriend, thereby eradicating any chance of peace."

I didn't know how to respond.  I didn't want to believe them and had no reason to do. The only thing that was making me believe them was a small, almost silent voice in the back of my head which despite its lack in volume seemed to override all other sounds. For some reason it made sense, but I wasn't about to admit that.

"I don't know what you think is going to happen, but you're going to leave us now. I am not going to believe your lies and I'm definitely not going to go with you," I glared straight into the females eyes as she seemed to be the leader out of the two.

"We've been ordered to take you with us, whether you believe us or not. We will use whatever means necessary," her relatively gentle and relaxed face turned tense and serious.

"You so much as try to touch her and I'll make you regret it," Greg threatened as he took a step forward.

"If I were you I would think very carefully about your next move," she called out, seemingly enjoying this confrontation, "You didn't think we came alone, did you?" She laughed as we looked around noticing about 20 of their comrades walking forward to reveal themselves.

I had to do something and quickly. My options looked bleak. We could run, we'd get caught. We could fight, we're severely outnumbered and would most likely loose. The decision that would probably be the best is to not to make a fuss and go with them. I could go with them quietly and Greg can go for help. We know who they work for, so it wouldn't be hard for them to find us.

I had made my choice.

"Stop!" All went silent and Greg halted. "I'll go with you."

"No, you won't! What are you doing?"

Ignoring Greg, I continue, "I have one condition. Leave him alone he has nothing to do with this."

"No you're not doing this!"

"That's fine, he doesn't concern us," the woman replied.

"Is anyone listening to me. You can't do this Madeline!"

I turn to Greg and try to calm him down. "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing," I walk over to him and give him a hug, "It's okay, I'll be okay."

I release him and give him a quick kiss. As I leave his side and approach our new friends, I glance back and give a reassuring smile.

"Let's get going," I heard the man say and off we went.
