"Good morning," I heard my mother say monotonically when I walked into the kitchen. I ignored her and went straight to the coffee that was on the counter. After a few gulps of the brown liquid, I felt more human and less zombie.

"Good morning," I murmured back.

The air was tense and an uncomfortable silence followed. my mom immediately got up as soon as she noticed it was seven o'clock. She looked impeccable in her black skirt and her white blouse. You wouldn't expect anything less from the director of a successful company.

She quickly walked to me and gave me a kiss on my cheek.

I closed my eyes thinking about all the times we had to repeat this damn ritual. My mother giving me a kiss and then walking out the door with her stupid suitcase. Usually it takes a few months before I see her again. It was the umpteenth time we had to do this ritual.

A slamming front door pulled me out of my thoughts. I quickly wiped the tear that had escaped from my eye away and finished my lukewarm coffee. A quick glance at the clock told me that I still had more than an hour left before the first day at my new school would start again.

My mother's job is the reason that we had to move a lot. I've been the new kid five times. Usually I did not try to make friends, because we moved so often. That's why I tried to stay invisible every time I was joined a new high school, and this time was no exception.

Half an hour later I walked out with my bag on my back and with my car keys in my hand. Sighing, I got into my car and then drove off to Eastwood High.

My new school.
