I nervously fidgeted with my fingers as I stood outside of my professors house. Maybe I shouldn't have come? Maybe I should just leave.
I looked at the door but I didn't move my feet. Why was something drawing me to this house? Why did I feel like I needed to find out?
Before I knew it, I knocked on the door and waited.
After a few seconds, I started really getting nervous. How do I even bring it into conversation? The door opened to the house, interrupting my thoughts.
It was a little boy.
"Who are you?" He looked up at me. I raised my eyebrows. I didn't know Professor Jones had a kid.
"Where's your dad?" I smiled down at him.
He looked up at me questionably. He was probably five or six at the oldest. But he was adorable.
"Mason, who are you talking to?" Professor Jones voice suddenly appeared behind the door. He arrived in the door frame and his smile flattened as soon as he saw me, before regaining himself.
"Marlie...what are you doing here?" He asked me questionably.
"I wanted to ask you about something. Can I come inside?"
-
I sat down on a red couch. There wasn't much pictures on the walls. No family pictures anyway. I looked around more and my eyes landed on a lighter on a shelf. I looked at it more carefully. That looks like...
"There you go." Professor Jones suddenly interrupted my thoughts by placing a cup of tea in front of me.
"Oh, thank you." I smiled. He sat down on a seat opposite of me.
"I didn't know you had a son." I grabbed onto the cup in front of me.
"Well, he's not mine. I'm babysitting." He smiled.
"Oh..." I smiled back, before I sipped my drink. I guess I didn't really think my plan all the way through.
"So, what did you want to talk to me about?" He asked curiously.
"Oh right." I bit my lip nervously," Do you perhaps, know Leo?" I raised my eyebrows.
His body tensed up a bit before he relaxed.
"Leo...nardo Dicpario?" He asked.
I nodded," Do you know him?"
He gave off a small smile and looked down at his cup," Of course! Who doesn't know Leo? He's a movie star of course." He laughed.
My smile fell.
"But, why do you ask?" He looked over at me.
I hesitated, "I was wondering if I could borrow the movie Romeo and Juliet. You know, since you're a big fan." I lied.
"Oh, that." He got up a bit shakily," Where did I put it?"
He left the room to go look for it.
I quickly stood up and I grabbed the lighter on the shelf while looking it over.
On every one of Leo's lighters, he writes an L near the bottom left corners.
I held the lighter in my hand and I froze. An L was at the bottom left corner. But why? Why was Professor Jones lying to me? It really didn't make any sense. And why did they need to talk about me?
I was in the middle of my thoughts when my professor came back. I stuffed the lighter in my pocket quickly.
"Sorry. I couldn't find it." He apologized. I fake smiled," It's okay. I need to go anyway." I stood up.
"Are you sure? You haven't even finished your tea." He followed me towards the door. I nodded," I should get going. My mother's back in town and she'll be waiting for me."
"Your...mom?" Professor Jones eyes widened. I nodded," I have to go bye!" I quickly walked out.
I closed the door behind me and I gave out a big sigh.
Oh my gosh that was so weird. Why did he lie? He clearly knows Leo when he's calling him and when his lighter is in his own house.
I really don't get it. I rubbed my head. Ugh all this thinking is giving me a headache.
-
{Jackys P.O.V}
I rapidly knocked on Johnnys door.
Honestly, where is he? I haven't seen or heard from him in days...
The door opened quickly.
"Seriously! I've been trying to call yo-" I cut off when my eyes landed on a guy that looked a lot tougher than Johnny and he was wearing a hat with an eagle on it.
"Hello. Who might you be?" He tilted his head and smiled.
"I'm Jacky. Are you Johnny's dad?" I asked.
He nodded," Yeah. Johnny is out right now on errands. Do you want to come inside and wait?"
I hesitated. I didn't want to be rude, but I didn't feel comfortable.
"No thanks. I'll just come back later." I smiled weakly, before turning around.
"Wait." He said. I turned back around.
"Do you perhaps know a Marlie Campbell?"
-
{Marlie's P.O.V}
I was laying in my bed and staring at the roof while thinking.
Professor Jones looks so familiar though. Why? Is he someone I know?
Suddenly my phone rang and I looked over at it lazily. I reached over and I put the phone to my ear.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Thank god. I thought you got kidnapped." Leo sighed on the other side. I sat up straight. Ugh, why did my stomach get butterflies right now?
