Trouble

I felt a lot better with the help of my friends.

Though I didn't tell them about what happened in the bathroom, I didn't feel comfortable telling them, not when I have a time by myself.

As me and my friends were in pool, and trust me, it was more of a dare then having fun, since it was the middle of December.

Then Maria came barging over to us, that it looked like she was going to cannonball into the pool.

"Guys tomorrow is Christmas Eve!"

We all stopped doing what we were doing and looked at her.

"You didn't know?" Aris asked.

She shook her head and continued texting.

I stared at her for a moment but then joined the volleyball game they started without me.

Maria:

I felt bad that Kiana was lying just to get Maggie in trouble, but when she went to the bathroom I started to not care.

I know it sounds mean, but my body has a mind of its own, whenever I care about something I stop caring, when my body orders it.

Now do I sound mean.

When Maggie came out her eyes were red, almost as if she was crying, but said she had a pink eye when she bumped into the shelves that hold the towels, and we all went outside to the pool.

They all started shivering and I just watched them, laughing inside.

Ding

I quickly grabbed my phone and sat in a bench nearby.

Unknown:

Hey, what are you doing?

I smiled.

Me:

Just hanging with my friends.

I got out of Messages and went to my calendar cause I'm a very forgetful person.

I then saw today was the 23rd of December.

It was only a few days since I didn't check my calendar.

I quickly stood up and ran to my friends.

"Guys tomorrow is Christmas Eve!"

I looked up from my phone and saw them looking at me strange.

"You didn't know?" Aris asked.

I shook my head and got another text.

Unknown:

Really? Hey can you give me $5

I looked up, seeing if anyone was watching but found everyone playing volleyball in the pool, trust me it's not a pleasant sight when it's in winter.

Me:

Um sure, but please can you stop asking me for money, I'm getting broke because of you

Unknown:

😂Ok, this is the last one

I turned off my phone trying not to think too much of the rent I have to pay next month and sat there, laughing at the sight of my friends "playing" volleyball in the pool in December.

When we finished our match of volleyball, my team won only because we wanted to get it over with since the water was freezing cold, and trying to move in it was like trying to break out of ice.

We all raced to the bathroom, and had to make a line, and if you know girls, they take a looooooooong time in the bathroom, but the person next to me, which was Aris was lucky, because I don't really take that long in the bathroom.

Finally it was my turn and I dared not to look in the mirror.

I got out of the bathroom and saw Maria sitting in the couch with that look.

I sat down next to her, disturbing her thoughts.

"What's up?"

"Nothing, I'm just- *sigh* stressed with school and stuff like that."

"Uh huh."

She turned to me and gave me a serious look.

"I'm going to get a cup of juice."

I watched her stand up and walk to the kitchen noticing her hands forming into fists.

"Is something going on with Maria too?" asked Jessie, sitting next to me.

I shrugged still watching as she poured herself some juice.

I sighed.

"I'm putting all of this Pepperoni issues off to the side, I'm realizing that I'm not the only one with problems in this group," I said looking away from Maria, "Maybe you have problems too, and I don't even know because I'm so worried about me."

I looked up at Jessie, seeing her bite her lip.

I hugged her tight, then was about to let go when she hugged me back.

Then felt someone else join in.

I peeked through Jessie's arm and saw Noemi joining in.

"What's going on, why all this hugging?" Joyce asked as she came closer to the group hug

We all let go, looked at each other, and started laughing.

Maria then came in our laughing chaos with her bag.

"Hey guys, I'm um about to leave."

"Already, but we still need to go to Maggie's house for you softball tournament," said Rebecca, coming from the restroom.

I turned from Rebby to Maria.

"I know, I just got a text from one of my softball friends, that its cancelled.

I nod at her.

She waved.

"See you guys tomorrow." And closed the door behind her.

Aris sighed.

"That girl is up to trouble."

She sat down too, having this worried look on her face that looked familiar.

"What do you mean?" asked Noemi.

Aris leaned back more in a resting position.

"Whatever she's going to do is just going to lead her to trouble."

I looked at the ground thinking this clearly.

Maria, to be honest, isn't really a I'm-going-to-get-in-trouble kind of person, in fact when I try to talk to her in class sometimes she just shushes me.

I looked at Aris clearly confused.

"I can feel it, my senses never fail, that's what I'll tell you."

I got my phone out to check the time and it showed

2:13 A.M.

"Um guys I have to go, it's pretty late out," I said.

They all nodded as I walked out the door.

As I closed the door behind me guess who I saw.

Peter.
