Lyrics aren't from a real song; I wrote them.
Fanfic based off picture above.
Albus sat in his office at Hogwarts, going through a stack of papers he had to grade. He marked a paper with an "O" for "Outstanding" as he began to sing a soft tune under his breath.
"Days of wishing for you to be by my side, days that have just made me want to hide. After all these years, after all these tears, I can't help it. I love you," he sang quietly as he set the essay aside and reached for another one.
Gellert was sitting at the end of a table, a few of his most trusted followers sitting around it. He was about to start talking about a plan of his when he felt it - the strong urge to sing that he would get whenever his so called soulmate started it. He sighed and stood up.
"Pardon me, but I have a private matter to attend to," Gellert muttered to his followers before rushing off to his office.
Albus had practically forgotten about the thing with singing and soulmates. His soulmate never sang on his own, so he often forgot it even existed.
"The clock keeps ticking, time keeps turning, seconds drain like sand. What I'd give to flip the hourglass. Just one last time," he sang.
Gellet sat in his desk chair, waiting for whatever song he was about to sing to start up. He never recognized the songs he would sing. He could only assume that his soulmate just made songs up when they were bored.
He rolled his eyes softly as the lyrics started to pour from his mouth.
"Seasons change, fear just reigns. I need you here, still love you, dear. The line between good and mad just starts to fade, when I just crave to hear you say my name," he sang lowly, trying to make sure no one else heard.
Albus smiled softly, lyrics flooding his brain. He wasn't sure if it was a great idea, to sing about the man he used to love. But, it helped him release his emotions. So, he supposed that it could be much worse.
"Days of wishing for you to be by my side, days that have just made me want to hide. After all these years, after all these tears, I can't help it. I love you," he repeated.
Gellert felt himself smiling slightly. He was by no means a fan of singing, but he had always liked what his soulmate came up with in terms of lyrics. He honestly related to them more than he cared to admit.
"Just stay right here, my dear. Don't you see? You're the only one that's right for me. Lonely nights spent in tears, lonely weeks turning to years."
Albus felt a pang if lost in his chest as he continued the song. He had been hit with the sudden realization of how much he missed his first lover, Gellert Grindelwald.
"Mistakes were made, but never changed. All hope was lost, didn't realize the true cost. Back way back when, men loving men..."
Gellert froze slightly at 'men loving men'. He had never known the gender of his soulmate. But, this likely meant that it was a man. He couldn't think of anyone else that those lyrics would apply to. It had to be Albus Dumbledore, his old lover.
"Days of wishing for you to be by my side, days that have just made me want to hide. After all these years, after all these tears, I can't help it. I love you," he repeated, ending the song.
Albus sighed as he wrapped up the song, setting his quill down. He was thinking too much of his past; he needed to take a break. Not even a half hour into his break and an owl had burst through the window, dropping a letter onto Albus' desk. Albus sighed and reached out to take the letter.
It was the lyrics to his song. Signed by Gellert Grindelwald.
After Gellert had sent the letter in an attempt to regain contact with the man he loved, he was struck with the realization that it might not be Albus. But, he knew that he wanted it to be. More than anything.
He soon got an owl back.
'Gellert. I can't believe it. We're soulmates. ~Albus Dumbledore'
The wizard grinned as he looked down at the letter. This would be fun.
