It had been years.
Years since the two men had come face-to-face. But, today was the day that it would all end.
Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald stood on opposite ends of the room, each with their wand raised to the other. The old blood pact the two had formed was smashed on the floor between them.
The two both began walked, circling each other as they walked the perimeter of the room.
Albus was frowning deeply, sorrow in his eyes as he glanced at the man he once loved. Well, as much as he hated to admit it, still loved. He didn't want to fight him, but he knew he couldn't let him win. And he knew he was the only one who could fight him and prevail.
Gellert glanced at him without any emotion adorning his face. At least to the commonfolk, it would seem that way. But, Albus saw behind the facade. He knew that he wasn't happy about this either.
"Albus," the white-haired man said softly, raising his wand a bit more.
"Gellert," the other responded, grip on his wand faltering a bit.
Grindelwald would never admit it, but Albus swore that he saw a flicker of a smile as he did that.
"So, you think this is it?" Grindelwald nearly mumbled. "You think this is how it ends?"
"Well, old friend, I know that this is how and where this ends," Albus said clearly, forcing his voice not to tremble.
"This isn't the end," the dark wizard said in a suddenly loud voice.
Albus rose an eyebrow suddenly at the rejection to reality. "And what makes you say that?" he questioned, standing up straighter.
"You don't want it to be," he responded simply, suddenly dropping his wand on the ground. "You don't want to hurt me. You don't want to defeat me. You don't want me to be locked away. So, you aren't going to end it."
Gellert walked towards Albus as he spoke, placing his neck directly at the end of the other's wand.
"But, if you'd like to prove me wrong. By all means, go ahead."
Albus froze, his wand lowering. The other grinned wickedly, taking his hand and lowering his wand the rest of the way for him.
"It will never be over. Not until you join me and we make this world ours, my love," Gellert whispered into his ear, cupping his face in his free hand.
Albus leaned into his touch slightly, stepping a bit closer.
"That's right," Grindelwald said lowly, pulling the other even closer.
They were mere millimeters away; Albus could feel Gellert's breath on his face. The darker wizard closes the gap between the two, kissing Albus gently.
Albus got closer to him, kissing back. He prayed that Gellert didn't notice the stream of salty tears that were freely flowing down his face.
Gellert noticed, of course, but he didn't say anything. He assumed that he was just happy that this was finally happening.
He ran a hand threw the others brown hair as he continued to kiss him.
Albus nearly collapsed in his arms as he deepened the kiss slightly, trying to obsorb the feeling of the others lips against his before it was all over.
He felt Gellert smile against his lips, thinking that he had won. That he would end this with the other at his side.
Part of Albus wished that Gellert's thoughts were right. But, he held his morals firmly. He wouldn't partake in any acts of dark magic. Not again. Not now. Not ever.
As the two kissed, Albus gingerly brought his wand up to the other's chest, casting a spell in his head.
Gellert fell limp in Albus' arms. Not dead. Just unconscious.
"I'm sorry, my love," Albus said softly as he disapperated to the Ministry of Magic with the man in his arms.
He sighed, looking up to the building where he would be turning in the man he loved.
"It's over," he whispered to himself. "It's finally over."
