Chapter 70 - Fire and Ice

Today was the second match for Ash, and this time it was on the rock field. Unfortunately, Delia and Emma's family couldn't stay to watch the battle this time, but promised to watch on TV with Professor Oak.

So, now, Emma, Misty and Brock were sitting on the bench behind Ash, watching as he was battling. Both he and the trainer he was battling were down with only one Pokémon now.

"Each of the trainers has just one Pokémon left! The up come of this match could be decided of which Pokémon these two young trainers select, who will make the winning decision!"

The trainer threw a Poké ball, "Go!" His Pokémon was revealed to be a male Nidorino.

Nidorino is a light-purple, quadrupedal Pokémon. It has several darker purple patches across its body. It has large, spiny ears with teal insides, narrow black eyes, and a long snout with two pointed teeth protruding from the upper jaw. Nidorino has a ridge of toxic spines on its back and a long, pointed horn on its forehead. Its short legs have three claws on each foot.

Emma looked at her Dexter.

Nidorino, the Poison Pin Pokémon. The evolved form of the male Nidoran. Its highly developed horn is extremely powerful.

"And Cory chooses a Nidorino! Now let's see which Pokémon Ash will choose."

Ash's Pikachu was ready to battle but to his disappointment, Ash threw a Poké ball, "I choose you, Squirtle!" The Tiny Turtle Pokémon was released.

"The young trainer from Pallet Town chooses Squirtle! Ketchum must be hoping that Nidorino's mighty horn is no match for Squirtle's super hard shell!"

"I'm counting on you, give it everything you got, Squirtle!" Ash said. The Tiny Turtle Pokémon with determination, "Squirtle, Squirtle!"

The bell rang. "Nidorino, Tackle attack!" Cory called. Nidorino ran toward Squirtle. "Get ready," Ash said.

"Nidorino is leaning forward with a Tackle attack!"

"All right Squirtle, Withdraw and roll!" Ash called. Squirtle pulled himself into his shell for protection. Nidorino hit into the rock Squirtle was on, and broke in as he rolled away in his shell. Nidorino followed him in a ran, and Ash smirked, "Good Squirtle, keep rolling."

Squirtle rolled straight into a hill and flew up, making Nidorino stop. "Now Squirtle, Water Gun!" Ash called. Squirtle pulled out from his shell, using Water Gun on Nidorino, hitting him into a rock. "Squirtle, Skull Bash attack, now!" Ash called.

Squirtle jumped into the air, surrounding by a silver aura, and slammed his head into Nidorino. Nidorino fell on the ground, unconscious.

"Squirtle's Skull Bash was right on target, and Nidorino is shaken!"

"Nidorino is unable to battle, victory goes to Ash Ketchum!" the referee called as he held the green flag, and the crowd cheered. Emma, Misty and Brock smiled as they stood up, "Yay!"

Ash grinned as Pikachu and Squirtle jumped up and down as they waved. Emma ran closer to Ash with Misty and Brock following. Togepi jumped to the floor and cheer next to Squirtle. Both Emma and Brock grabbed Ash's wrists and held his hands up into the air as the crowd continued to cheer loudly.

Unknown to them, Gary was watching the group from the exit with his cheerleaders. He didn't like the crowd cheering for Ash, and he definitely didn't like seen Emma holding his hand. He scoffed, "Just look at him. He wins two easy matches and he already acts like he won the all competition." He glared as he watched Ash and Emma exchanging a smile, "And her." He turned around and walked out with his cheerleader following.
