The ninth Doctor stood at the TARDIS console lost in thought as he looked at a silver band that hung off the television screen. Rose found him like this one day with a somber look on his face.
" Doctor?" she called out to him for the third time this time getting a response. he turned to look at her his hand moving to hold the silver band.
" Yes Rose" He plastered a fake smile onto his face his brain still stuck in the past.
" Are you ok? you just seemed a bit off today" Rose asked looking him in the eyes then to his hand.
" yeah, i'm fine, just a bit off." he brushed it off, holding the band tighter. it was the source of his problem, it kept him reminding him of how he has failed. all he couldn't do. the band use to bring a smile to his face as he though of the girl who had made it for him, it held there promise and kept them close to each other in the days of the war. now it just served as a reminder of what he did, how he used her creation to end the war, how he couldn't save her.
" whats that you got there?"
" what?"
"the shinny thing your holding" Rose said taking a step closer holding her hand out so the doctor could give it to her.
" ooh, this. well it nothing really, just a bit of the past." he said reluctantly unclipping it handing it over, knowing that if he didn't Rose would grab it by herself to study it later. it was safer to just hand it over know so he could chaperone her to make sure nothing happened to the band.
" it beautiful, where did you get it? what all this writing on it?" Rose ran her fingers across the engravings, as her eyes lit up.
" A friend, a good friend. it's in gallifreyan, it was a promise between the two of us. It gave us hope during the time war. I don't know why i keep it. I just can't bring myself to get rid of it." His eyes smiled at the memory of her, but a frown grew on his face.
"Well, she did a good job at picking them out i'd say. It's gorgeous."
" Oh no. She didn't just buy this Rose. the mechanic never bought anything she could create herself. she spent three days cooped up in her workshop making the pair, one for herself and the other for me. She was fantastic! Could build anything, fix anything. Mick was the only one who could out do me in mechanics even with the sonic screwdriver! but, ooh was she rubbish at history or anything to do with geography of other worlds. She would always have something in her hands, like they had a mind if there own..." the doctor stopped the smile that was on his face melted as his words paused. His hearts acked with guilt as he realized something "I miss her, Rose...I wish i could have saved her." the time lord looked down at the bracelet, Rose could see the swirling hurricane of emotion in his eyes and quickly brought him in to a hug.
" It not your fault ya know. You can't blame yourself. The mechanic wouldn't want you to blame yourself. She'd want you to move on and be happy" Rose comforted the doctor the best she could. She pulled away from the hug and look at the doctor with a small smile. " Hold out your hand." the doctor did as requested and watched as Rose clipped the band around his wrist.
"And what exactly are you doing?" the doctor said as Rose admired her handy work.
" This friend of yours. She make this for you, she wouldn't want you moppen about. This way at least its like she can always be with you, so your never alone Doctor... Not that I intend to leave you anytime soon."
"Thank you, Rose" the Doctor said a small smile on his face, he look around the TARDIS for a moment before he looked to rose once more. " Now. where to next?" he asked already pushing buttons and moving about the counsel.
"Umm how about the-"
" Wait a second, i'm getting a signal. something is pulling us in. Oh Fantastic!"
" So where are we going?"
" Let's find out!" with a smile on his face he pulled a lever and off they went.
