I Promise - A Doctor Who Love story

Goggles.

It had been years since the Mechanic had stepped foot into this tardis, she hoped she could find her way around as well as she could back when, before she was taken by Van Statten. Thankfully the tardis sensed this uneasiness and guided mick all the way to the wardrobe where a plethora of clothes were kept including her old outfits from her last stay on the tardis. Her hands ran over the various fabrics till they settled on something that sparked her eye, some 80's dark high high waisted blue jeans with dark maroon suspenders and a pale green short sleeve button up shirt.

Looking at the mirror she smiled, taking a good look at her face for the first time since she had regenerated 50 years ago. Her skin was an alabaster color cascaded with galaxys of freckles, her hair wasn't quite red as but a copper wire color that fell in curls down her back till she tied it up into a messy bun as best she could. Looking at herself once more she felt as if something was missing. There was something she needed, the question was where had the doctor put it.

Back at the console the two human sat on the jump seat with amused looks on their face as they watch the Doctor jumped around the console messing with the controls, muttering words under his breath with a child like smile on his face, and a bag of sour gummy worms in hand.

" Say Rose, do you mind getting me something real quick?" the Doctor spoke out as started tidying the controls wiping them down with the sleeve of his shirt.

" Sure, whatcha need?" Rose replied

" under that seat there's a secret compartment. Press the button and toss me what's in there" Rose did as directed holding what appeared to be leather strapped, glass goggles. Rose held onto them opting not to throw them even with the Doctor standing ready his hands up ready for the toss.

" what are these?"

" their the Mechanics she left them with me for safe keeping." the Doctor said walking over to Rose taking the goggles from her and putting them over his head letting them rest around his neck.

" and why is that?" Rose asked slight jealousy in her tone.

" Well back during the war we worked together for a short span of time, my Tardis needed fixing and she needed help with one of her machines. We were friends you see, before the time war. But things changed and we made a promise, and i broke it. Thought that's not going to happen."

" So you to knew each other? What you meet in school or something, wait did you even go to school or did you-"

" Yes i went to school. Mickey too. But not at the same time, i graduated before her." the Doctor said with a smug smile. " we met through her brother, he was my friend too."

"Wait did you just call her Mickey?"

"Yeah! Why wouldn't he it's my nickname, been stuck with it thanks to big ears over their." the mechanic spoke up from her place at the top of the stairs as she walked down to the Doctor a lopsided grin on her face.

"Oi! Leave the face out of it." the Doctor yelled out with a serious look on his face but it soon turned into a smile. " i like the outfit choice, very well...umm, you." he continued has he held out the bag of sour gummy worms to her.

Rose watched the interaction between the two timelords and couldn't help the giggle that came out due to the stunned look at the doctors face. Never before had she seen someone who was so able to stun the Doctor. Mick remembered that there were other people on the ship beside her and the doctor, and the smile on her face vanished as she eyed Adam. she knew him from the compound and did trust him, she felt could trust Rose. Just not Adam.

Mick didn't find trust easy anymore, there was a time before this regeneration when she was able to trust anyone. The people who took her as their prize made sure that she would never feel safe again. She was afraid always afraid. The Doctor noticed this, but didn't say anything, He knew that she would tell him when she was ok.

" sorry, to interrupt... but what are we doing, exactly." Adam asked as he stepped out beside Rose.

" right sorry, where to go?" the Doctor said as he looked over to the mechanic as a smirk grew on his face. He pulled a lever, pushed buttons as he moved around the console. The tardis wheezed as they took off to their new destination. The mechanic never leaving the Doctors side.
