Dee Dee and Adina walked in the meadow of the sunflowers together. Thanksgiving had come and gone along with Christmas, and Dee Dee found herself spending more and more time in the Land of Oz. Of course things weren't perfect such as Dee Dee needing to hide when around Adina's castle, but at least the Princess was warming up to Dee Dee interacting with Adina. Princess still wasn't fond of it but it kept peace among the kingdom, no flying monkeys, no having to create shields with magic-so balance was restored. Although Princess knew it was a matter of years before things really took off for the throne, in the mean time, she would allow Dee Dee to be friends with the green skinned girl.
Time was no longer an issue anymore. It took some getting used to and planning down to the last second, but Dee Dee finally managed to time out her travels just right. No more were her parents wondering where she was at, or her missing school days nor her friends back in Kansas.
The two teenage girls fell back onto the sunflowers laughing. Talking about nothing and laughing about everything even small things such as snow, which apparently Adina has never seen before. Dee Dee poked her and nudged at Adina's innocence in never seeing snow. Adina could use her magic any time though to go to Kansas if she wanted to see snow-not that year though.
The weather was cold, but not cold nor moist enough for it to snow. It had been like that for a couple if not a few years now. And when it did snow, it was barely no more than a couple of inches. Dee Dee sighed thinking about it and placed her hands behind her head. The sky was clear, light blue, no clouds in the sky. From a distance, Dee Dee could see light green lights waving in the sky. They came from Emerald City.
Dee Dee turned on her side and propped herself up on her elbow. "Adina..."
"Hmm?"
"Who do you want to marry?"
Adina nearly chocked on her own saliva. She sat up and punched herself in the chest, hawking up nothing. Dee Dee also sat up and patted Adina on the back until she calmed down. Once her coughing fit was over, she glanced over at Dee Dee and leaned back down using her elbows to keep her up.
"What kind of question is that? Who knows who they're going to marry as a kid!" She laughed at Dee Dee's apparently romantic heart.
Dee Dee remained sitting up with her legs to the side and underneath her. "You don't like anyone? Some boy or something?" She some what turned her head to the side afraid she may have been blushing a bit.
Adina sat up and crossed her legs. She turned to face Dee Dee. "There are hardly any wizards in this area. We're, like, the only ones here. Everyone else moved when-when, my great great grandma died." Adina gave Dee Dee a questioning look. She tipped up her nose and mouth, skeptical. "Is there someone you like?"
"NO!" Dee Dee held up her hands in an offensive manner. "No, no, no-well, no."
"Well...what?"
Dee Dee took a sunflower down and started to pluck the leaves. She never told Adina about Clara. She was going to keep it a secret but-for what. She admitted to the other girl who stared wide eye at her that she had, had a girlfriend but things fell apart. Adina didn't seem shocked or confused by Dee Dee admitting she had an ex-girlfriend whom she used to like. The response she gave was her shrugging her shoulders and falling back to the ground within the field of sunflowers. Dee Dee fell back down as well.
"Love comes and goes. You'll find another." Adina told her, which was probably the most mature thing she had said for a while. Over the past months, Dee Dee had come to know Adina's personality to be sarcastic, skeptical, aggressive, and combative but there were some moments when she said things such as these. Words that warmed the heart or challenged the brain. She was-her own.
Dee Dee sat at her desk reading the newest issue of her favorite magazine. She was content and held a small smile upon her face. The New Year's was approaching and she was excited to leave the current year behind. Her resolution for the coming year was modest; pretty much it was to just continue to do good in school and to not have any awkward situations with Clara.
Her mother knocked on the door and Dee Dee called for her to enter. Dorothy closed the door behind her and leaned on her daughter's desk. Dee Dee leaned back in her chair.
"Yes, mother."
'Mother' is what Dee Dee used when she was being sarcastic or ironically. "H-how are you feeling?" Her mother asked her nonetheless. Dee Dee only shrugged and looked down at her magazine. Ever since her break up with Clara, her parents had been zooming over her. It was as if they were just waiting for her to pass out-it was just a break up. Many teenagers her aged had them. Her parents were just making the situation more awkward by walking on fine glass.
"Ma, if you want to talk about it...we can." She turned around in her chair and walked to her bed, and sat on the edge. She kept her legs closed together and brushed her knee high skirt off. Knee high skirts were probably her favorite type of clothes to wear. They were a simple look and she preferred the ones with ruffles, that swayed when one walked.
A deep sigh came from her mother and Dee Dee kept her eyes down. She allowed her mother to speak."We're just worried. We don't know what to do or expect-this is all new to us, honey." Dorothy sat next to her only daughter. Dee Dee placed her hand on her mom's shoulder. There was no need to worry about her daughter; in fact, Dee Dee was just fine and more gleeful than ever. In fact, maybe she would go ahead and tell her mom about her new friend.
