Alone

Dee Dee sat outside just behind the barn along with a few other misfits who seemed to not be enjoying the party. Once inside the barn, Dee Dee and Clara quickly separated. Clara was pulled off towards her friends while Dee Dee just stood there. She was alone for a while until David came to her side. He too went off when his crush showed up and as Dee Dee stood there while the students around her smoked, and drunk, she wondered if this was something Clara normally did.

Now outside, Dee Dee sat on a blanket the misfits had and allowed her to sit there. She read her book. Her jacket wasn't as buttoned up because the fire allowed for her body to warm up. Her cheeks didn't feel like blocks any longer. Either way, by the time she was outside, after a certain amount of time, she was actually able to memorize the spell. She placed the book in her small little purse and decided to just enjoy the fire. When she turned to the barn, she thought about how long it was until the two of them would leave. It was then she thought what if Clara forgot about her.

Then turning, her and the others saw and witnessed a loud commotion coming from the barn. There was yelling by the other kids, and Dee Dee watched as they pushed a kid to the ground and kicked him, or pretended to kick him. Dee Dee stood up and saw some beer cans thrown at him and the kid ran towards Dee Dee. He tripped over an untied shoelace and landed on his stomach. He crawled closer to the fire then sat up.

"Are you okay?" Dee Dee asked. The others were curious about the boy, but he didn't answer Dee Dee's question. Instead, he kept his hand down and crossed his legs. Dee Dee went back to the blanket and started to speak the spell to herself when someone said-

"You've been telling that stupid monkey story, uh, Josh?"

Dee Dee looked up at the young man who said it then she looked to the boy named Josh.

       "Monkey?" She asked aloud.

A girl who was cuddled up to the young man who first mentioned it, laughed. Her hair was a orange, and dark brown color with waves. Her eyes were dark brown and her skin was tan. Dee Dee had remembered seeing her around the school but that was it. "Josh here has been telling everyone that he's been seeing these monkeys." She explained. "Wait-wait, not just any type of monkeys, flying monkeys." She and her male friend laughed. Dee Dee only sat there, distraught. She gulped and wanted to stand up for Josh but also didn't want to give too much away.

"Maybe what Josh is seeing is true..." Dee Dee said. Her voice shook a bit, and she wasn't sure it was because of the cold or the nerves. The girl just laughed at her, but Josh looked up at her and gave her a little smile. Dee Dee smiled back; this gave her a little bit of confidence. "I've heard some things too." Dee Dee said. This not only peeked the interest of Josh but the others who were around the fire, even the skeptics like the girl and her-maybe, boyfriend. "Josh isn't alone on this...I've seen some things too."
