Dee Dee stood outside on the porch waiting for Clara. Her grandmother was in the rocking chair knitting and humming. She looked over, and saw her mother peering from one of the front windows. She took a deep breath and wrapped her coat around her. Finally, she saw headlights coming from up the road. She waved from the porch and ran to the truck. She opened the door and smiled.
"C'mon, we got to hurry. I don't want my parents coming out." She told Clara.
Clara gulped and blushed at the younger girl. Dee Dee's face also turned a cherry colored upon realizing her date was finding her attractive. She got into the truck and closed the door. Dee Dee held her hand out the window and waved to her mom who came out onto the porch along with her grandmother, who still sat there knitting.
The two of them were extremely giddy as they sat quietly heading into the night. They were heading to the small movie theatre where they originally made plans to catch a movie. Clara parked the truck into the parking lot which was of course full because it was a Friday. It was also full because it was close to Halloween and a couple of horror movies had been released. Clara spoke about how she wanted to see one horror movie that was actually apart of a big franchise about a serial killer who had been trying to kill a woman for years-since the 1970's when the first movie of the franchise released.
"You excited to see this?" Clara asked. They stood in line for food and drinks after getting their tickets. They decided to split the cost. Clara paid for the tickets while Dee Dee paid for the food. Clara wanted to pay for everything but Dee Dee spoke against it, said it wasn't fair. Maybe if Clara was a boy, she would expect that but it was different-it seemed different.
Nachos with jalapenos, popcorn, and one cup of big soda. Clara suggested they share the drink which Dee Dee agreed on. When it was all together and Dee Dee got her change back, the two of them headed into the hallway for their movie. Dee Dee never really did say she was excited for the movie...she really wasn't but since Clara was really excited to see the movie, Dee Dee was happy to walk hand-in-hand with her.
The two of them chose two seats in the front. They wanted...Clara wanted two seats in the back; however, it was full of other high school students and young adults. Dee Dee was find sitting in the front since she knew what sitting in the back entailed.
The movie went on the way and luckily they didn't have to sit through trailers of other movies, something Dee Dee absolutely disliked when watching movies. She enjoyed her nachos and finished faster than she thought. The napkins she had she used to wipe her hands clean. As she proceeded to watch the movie, now and then jumping at the obvious jump scares, she was surprised at how well the movie was done. The story was quite mature probably because the main actress was in her early sixties and had been acting since she was a teenager. Although it wasn't a movie she preferred to watch, it wasn't bad.
During it, she could feel Clara taking looks at her every now and then. She was probably trying to feel whether Dee Dee was enjoying herself or not. Clara even asked a couple of times if she was doing okay, whether the movie was too scary.
"I'm not a kid, Clara...it's okay."
Clara laughed a little embarrassed for assuming otherwise. A light flush came over her cheeks. Dee Dee saw so Dee Dee patted Clara's hand to let the other girl know it was okay.
Soon the movie was over and the lights came back on. The nachos were of course gone, and the pop corn as well, and there was only a little bit of soda left. They sat back along with some other movie tenders to see if anything came after the credits. As always with horror movies, there was a implication of a sequel. Dee Dee rolled her eyes. It would be great if things could just end sometimes. Nonetheless, she sighed but stood up fixing herself. She stretched her arms and yawn. In her little purse slung across her shoulder, there was gum there. She popped it in her mouth to freshen her breath.
