{Sam's POV}
"Meet any new friends, Sam?" Papa Roy asked in between bites of Grandma's homemade spaghetti.
"Yes, actually," I smiled, knowing he wasn't expecting me to say yes.
"Oh, really? We're going to the cabin this weekend. Do you want to invite him so your Gram and I can meet him?" I could tell he didn't believe me.
"Her, actually."
Seeing his questioning glance, I added more. "Her name is April, and she just moved here from Maine."
The questioning look didn't disappear.
"We're not dating!" I rolled my eyes.
His expression changed from questioning to disappointed. "Why not?"
He responded to my scowl with a wink before Gram interjected. "Enough from both of you! Sam, that's wonderful. Roy, don't rush things."
I laughed at the glare she sent in his direction.
"Can I invite her to the cabin though?"
My grandparents had had their cabin since they got married. They had always loved camping, so Papa Roy built her a cabin. I loved going there. There was a creek that my sister, Emily, and I used to swim in when we went. I hadn't been back since my parents had gotten divorced, and I couldn't wait for this weekend.
"Of course you can! We'd love to have some extra company!" Gram replied.
And I thought my day could not get better.

{April's POV}
"Guess what."
"Sam, I haven't even been here for two seconds," I laughed.
"Come on! Guess!" he whined.
"You're getting a pet unicorn?"
"Nope."
"A pet squirrel?"
"No pets."
"You won a free trip to Mars where you can experience all the wonders of the universe from the comfort of your own designer spacesuit?"
"You're a terrible guesser."
"Just tell me already!"
"Okay, gosh, I was going to," he laughed. "My grandparents have a cabin in the woods, and we're going this weekend, and they said it was okay of I invited you, so... do you want to go?" he asked hopefully.
The smile fell from my face. "Cabin?"
"Yeah. It's really fun there."
My first instinct was to say no. Cabins weren't exactly my favorite things on the planet, and the last time I set foot in one was the worst day of my life, but his hopeful expression stopped me.
"I...um...have to ask my parents," I stuttered.
"Okay! Do you want my number so you can text me tonight what they say?"
Finding no way around it, we exchanged numbers. He seemed exited, but I was completely freaked out. What if there was water? What if Sam wanted to go swimming and saw how completely scared I was?
"We're only going for an overnight, so you won't need much. Oh, and you'll need a bathing suit too," he was talking a mile a minute, but that last line was all I heard.
I absolutely could not go swimming. It was the last thing I wanted to tell Sam, but the last time I jumped into a creek, my entire life began spiraling downward.
