{Sam's POV}
"Tell me one think that nobody knows about you," April gives me a mischievous grin, making me laugh.
"No, really," she continues. "I told you a lot about me."
She does have a point, and I'm sure I trust her, but something holds me back. Maybe it's the fact that I don't really believe in myself, or that I think she won't. But if I never tell anyone, no one will ever believe in me. And then what? Before I can change my mind, I look around to make sure no one is listening and blurt it out.
"I like to sing."
I slowly look up, expecting to see her laughing at me. Insteasd, her smile is bright and her eyes are even brighter.
"Really? Me too!"
I can't believe it. The two most important things in my life are merging; April and music.
"Do you maybe want to like...get together after school...and, well I don't know..." she looks up at me, her eyes timid.
"Yeah, I like that idea."
{April's POV}
"I'll race you," Sam winks at me playfully, making me laugh. "Ready set GO!"
Before I know it, he's running and I'm chasing him just as fast. We burst through the door of his house breathless and still laughing at our childish game.
"April! Hi!" Papa Roy greets me with his now familiar grin.
"Hi Mr. and Mrs. Woolf!" I replied politely.
"We're going to go upstairs, okay?" Sam tells them.
"Sure, honey, but we're going out soon. Will you be alright here alone?" Grandma Jackie asks.
"Yes, we'll be fine," Sam rolls his eyes.
"Are you sure?" Papa Roy winks at us.
Sam shakes his head and rolls his eyes again before leading me upstairs. I follow, laughing again.
"Sorry about them," Sam says, taking out his guitar.
"Don't apologize. I love your grandparents," I smile at him.
He returns the smile and comes to sit next to me on his bed.
"So, what do you want to do? What do you sing?"
"I want to hear you sing first. Sing me something."
"If you insist," he grins and strums a chord on his guitar. "I wrote this recently. It's about a girl I met in the school cafeteria on my first day of school."
I blush, and with another wink he closes his eyes and opens his mouth and the sound that comes out is like nothing I've heard before.
"I can't sleep,
There's a hole around us it's now getting deep,
And I can't stay up if you're not with me,
And it all goes on..."•••
"'Cause you are slowly taking me,
But you don't realize or see."He finishes and looks up at me.
Words simply can't describe what I feel right now, and all I can say is "Wow."
"What do you think?" He asks shyly.
"Sam, I don't know what to say. That was just...beautiful."
He stands up and walks over to me, gently setting down his guitar.
"Thank you," he whispers, pulling me to my feet. My heart speeds up just by his hands on mine, and when our lips touch I forget where I am. I forget everything, because in this moment, all that matters is this indescribable feeling. I have no words to describe it because it is something I haven't felt in a long time, if ever. The word finally surfaces and becomes clear in my brain: belonging.
I belong here.
