{Sam's POV}
I stared out the window, numb with regret. How could I be so foolish? She loved me and I loved her, why did I have to go and screw things up?
I needed to talk to her, I needed to apologize. Maybe she wouldn't forgive me, but I needed her to know that I missed her already.
Taking a deep breath, I headed for the door. I slowly opened it and was about to call out to Papa Roy where I was going when she burst through the door.
"I need to talk to you," she panted. Her eyes were red, like she had been crying, but they were still full of panic.
"Is that April?" Papa Roy called from the living room.
"Yeah, we're going upstairs," I called back, and without waiting for a response, I dragged her to my room.
Instantly, she wrapped her arms around me and buried her face in her shoulder. Then, she started to cry.
"April, stop. I'm so sorry. I didn't really mean anything I said, you're an amazing friend and I love you and I know you're mad but I'm so so sorry and I just don't want to lose you and-"
"Stop," she said, in between sobs. "I'm not mad, I'm sorry too. I guess I should've asked you but I didn't want you to be mad after what happened when I asked you why you moved here and I guess what I'm saying is I'm sorry if I screwed up and I just want to be friends again."
"Okay," I smiled at her. Then, a thought occurred to me.
"Wait, are we still dating?"
She responded with a kiss on the cheek, then sat down next to me.
"Of course. But I actually came here to tell you something else...is that okay?"
The panic had returned to her eyes."You can tell me anything."
"They're back," she blurted out. "My parents. My real parents. They came to see me and apologize," she spat out the word apologize like it tasted bad.
"Sam, I'm scared. What if they make me leave here?"
Her words hung in the air like a storm cloud waiting to open up. I don't even want to think about April leaving.
"They wouldn't do that, they can't. You were taken away from your father, they can't just put you back, can they?" I asked hopefully.
She shook her head.
"I don't know, but if they can, I'm not leaving this town."
"Please don't."
We sat there for a little while, just enjoying sitting next to each other, but the moment was interrupted by April's phone buzzing.
After glancing at it, she looked up at me.
"I have to go. Thank you," she gives me the biggest smile she can manage before picking herself up and walking away.
{April's POV}
I entered the house as quietly as I could. They were screaming, and I got closer to eavesdrop.
"You can't just take her away, we adopted her, we're her parents!"
"You're temporary parents, you didn't adopt her. You agreed to take her in for a year and adopt her if things worked out."
"Things are working out! Look at her! She's happy here! Have you ever seen her happy?"
"Look, since this was a temporary home, we have the right to take her. Her father doesn't have rights to be her legal guardian, but he and her mother both have the right to see her. We are moving her to another temporary home in Maine so she can be closer to her parents. We're leaving tomorrow."
"I'm not leaving."
They all turn to me, surprised to see me standing in the doorway.
"I'm not leaving," I repeat. "I like it here, and I don't want to leave. You finally found the right home for me, aw you really going to take it away?"
"April, sweetie, I'm sorry, but this isn't your decision," Ms. Amber was still fake smiling. I hated her.
"Why not? Why can't I have a say in where I live?"
But I knew it was useless. By the time they all left, all I could do was hope they changed their minds.

So I feel like I should say that I realize if this were real life she probably couldn't be taken away but it fits with the story line so yeah thanks for reading✌️
