{Sam's POV}

"Have fun!"

"Ok mom! See you!"

I hear more noises from inside the house before the door opens to reveal April, dressed in jean shorts, a tank top, and flip flops and looking as beautiful as usual.

I rushed to help her with her bags and she smiled at me.

"Hey," she said quickly before looking down. Her face started to flush red, and she quickly straightened up and headed for the car. I couldn't read her expression. Was she... nervous?

"Help April pack up, Sam. We're going to go talk to her parents," my grandma told me as she and Papa Roy climbed the front steps.

"Okay, thanks gram!"

April didn't look at me as she hauled her stuff in the trunk. Was she mad at me?

"Are you okay?" I asked hesitantly.

She looked startled. "I'm... um... yeah. Fine. I'm fine," she stuttered.

She wasn't fine.

I gave her a questioning look and opened the door for her. She smiled slightly, but only glanced at me. Why was she acting so wierd?

The silence in the car was so heavy I could practically lift it and throw it around the car if I wanted to. She stared out the window, and I stared at her. How long were my grandparents going to be gone?

I wanted to say something, but my mouth wouldn't open.

Finally, after what seemed like hours, Papa Roy and Gram emerged from the house, trailed by a middle aged woman with jet black hair and dark brown eyes. She looked nothing like April. Maybe she looked like her dad?

But my suspicions were proven wrong when a man came out of the house with the same dark eyes and hair the color of sand. She honestly didn't even look related to them.

I was so absorbed in my thoughts I barely noticed the car start moving.

Almost instantly, Papa Roy started quizzing April on every second of her life. She answered, but she kept her words to a minimum, and she wore the same expression she had when I was helping her pack up the car.

The car ride passed quickly, and before I knew it, Papa Roy took a sharp turn onto my favorite dirt road. I never did say he was the best driver in the world.

"Can I go show April around? Please? I want to show her the creek and-"

"After you take your stuff inside," Papa Roy interrupted.

I jumped out of the car before it had even stopped moving to grab my stuff and some of April's and race inside. It was just how I remembered it. But I didn't take too long to enjoy it before grabbing April and racing out the door.

I dragged her along after me through the woods. Before long, the sound of rushing water mixed with the rustling of leaves and the chirping of birds.

Finally, we came to a stop in front of a bubbling, crystal clear creek. I turned, expecting April to wear the same awe-struck expression I had worn when I first saw this place, but she I turned, I didn't even see April. I saw a confused, angry, sad little girl staring into the water like she was reading a book.

"April? Are you okay?"

She looked at me surprised, like she had forgotten I was there. Her eyes darted from me to the water and back again. Then, she burst into tears.
