"Leather case, check. Paper, check. Ink, check. Pen, check. What else do we need, Prince?"
He thought about it. "Bread, cold leather for the meats we have, cheese, canisters. I think that's all."
"We should get some magical herbs before we leave too. Oh, and apples for Jagg and the horses. Maybe some apples for us as well."
"I do love apples, Princess."
We collected what we needed. Prince Bowen told me that he needed to get something in private, so I let him leave. This was a safe place. As I was walking away, I found that Rathelia had run after him. It was strange so I decided to follow. I did promise to protect him and something that questionable means problems. I will not take a chance.
I found Prince Bowen in a jewelry store. It was strange for a prince to be there. Rathelia stood beside him. "Prince Bowen, do you have a moment?"
"Yes, I was just looking. Is there something wrong?"
"Back in Moira, Princess Victoria had a speech. It made me realize a few things, and I'd like to say them to you now, if you don't mind."
He smiled. "I've known you for a long time, Rathelia. You are the most powerful witch I've ever seen. We're friends, so please, tell me what's on your mind."
She took a deep breath. My eyes widened as the words flowed out of her mouth. It was like I couldn't hear anything. It couldn't be real. I shook my head, remembering what I said to her. It was only right that the first one to confess would be the one who he should be with.
Something shocking happened though. "I'm grateful for your feelings, Rathelia, but I have no feelings the same back towards you."
"But you have feelings towards someone else?"
"I do."
Tears fell down her face. "Oh, I understand."
"Please don't cry, Rathelia. You are a wonderful girl and I am sure there is someone else who loves you all the same."
Jovsin...
She smiled. "I'm sure you're right, Prince. Thank you for giving me the time to say it. I feel much better not holding it in anymore. I started feeling this way about the time I joined the journey to Wyverna. I truly knew I loved you when you nearly were killed by that monster when Princess Victoria saved you. I cared more about you then if she was going to die. I felt bad for thinking that way, but I couldn't help it."
"Did you ever think that your feelings for me are reflections of feelings for someone else?"
She thought about it. "I grew up alongside Jovsin. He was like you years ago. Maybe I am reflecting emotions from him to you because he's no longer the prince I had known."
"Stop frowning then. We are going to fix Jovsin and the other Wyverna princes soon. Before you know it, he will be back to the way he was before."
She started laughing. "You're right. So, what are you doing in such an expensive woman's store?"
"Presents, of course. For Princess Lolana."
"What about for the girl you love in Servania?"
He laughed. "A gift to a young woman only to tell her she must burn metal to poke holes in her ears in order to wear the jewelry? They have no necklaces here."
"What about a ring? If you truly love her, ask her to marry you. That's what Princess Victoria would say. You may do what your heart wants."
He sighed. "If only it were that easy."
