You had been friends with Luke ever since his mom helped you with math. You weren't particularly good at it but she helped you loads and well being at her house once a week meant that you got to know Luke pretty quickly.

By now it had been years since you first met him. You were a little younger than him but it didn't bother him and neither did it bother you. Slowly you developed quite a deep friendship even when later on the band came between you two sometimes.

For years you had never felt anything other than friendship towards him, until he proudly told you about his relationship. Suddenly there was this deep feeling of loss in you, even though you knew you hadn't technically lost him. Every time he told you about her you tried to change the subject without seeming too jealous.

The fact that you loved him in more than a friendship type of way hit you like a brick. You felt hurt every time he talked about her, but seeing them kiss for the first time in person almost broke you.

You had to excuse yourself to the toilet to regather yourself and to calm down before being able to face the two together. It felt like the floor had been ripped from right underneath your feet. For a while you were even glad that he spent so little time in Australia as you were able to push him to the back of your mind.

Fast forward to the day that the relationship ended but instead of feeling happy you felt weird. There was a part of you that certainly was happy, regaining hope that there might be a chance for you now but on the other hand you felt sad for him, he seemed really happy and you didn't want him to be upset. He flew home to Australia to have the support from his family and friends he needed at such a point. You had planned to pick him up from the Airport and take him back to his mum.

For some reason you felt incredibly nervous while you were waiting for him. You were playing with your hands and your eyes zipped around the huge room trying to identify Luke. After a couple of minutes you spotted him and walked towards him. He almost ran into you because he was searching for you on the other side of the room.

"Luke! Right in front of you.", you didn't even wait for a response before wrapping your arms around him and hugging him tightly. Everyone needs a hug, he especially. "Y/N", he pressed you closely to his chest. "Are you OK?", you looked up at him and met his gaze. "Kind of, not really, I don't know.", there was a kind of undertone to his voice that you had only heard once or twice before. You rubbed his back with your hand and sighed.

"We should get to the car, we don't want to have people notice you right?", you let go of him and picked up his suitcase.

You sat down in the driver's seat with Luke next to you. It would take you about half an hour to get back to his mum's, either not enough time to properly talk or way too much time to sit in awkward silence.

"Your mum made your favourite cake for you", the radio had been turned to low and you had to start talking somehow, "The chocolate one you know?" You looked over and met a sad smile. "Mhm, not too hungry tho"

After sitting in silence for a few minutes you couldn't take it anymore and placed your left hand onto his. You squeezed his fingers slightly, trying to convey to him that it was okay to feel the way he did. "You don't have to talk, but if you want to I will listen"
