Harry's POV
I continue on my way to the history building where I was meeting Sidney. In one hand, I was holding the case of beer I took from Nick who said I could have it. I realize I was getting close because my surroundings were familiar. Just a few days ago, I was standing here when I ran into Sid and I asked for her number. She then proceeded to inscribe her number on my wrist with a pen along with her name, a heart beside her name. The thought made a smile come across my face.
It was now dark, the street lamps lightening up the streets. As I make my way closer to where I was meeting up with her, I notice a figure standing there. It had to be Sidney, I was sure of it. My thoughts were confirmed when I spotted her long dark hair that flowed down her back, her back to me. I was sure it was her. A smile makes its way to my face as I continue forward. She continued to sit there staring off as if she was in deep thought.
“Sidney?” I question, the smirk staying on my lips as I look at the gorgeous girl before me. She looked good in the ripped jean shorts and white crop top against her tanned skin. A sigh escapes her lips as she turns at the sound of my voice. It sounded like a sigh of relief, from my perspective, and I’m sure I knew what, no, who it was from – Chris.
“Hey,” she replies in a soft tone. A small smile adorned her face and she sniffled a bit.
“Ready to go?” I ask as I take a step closer, a small smile on my lips.
“More than ready; want to get the hell out of here for a bit…” she replies sharply and gives me a slight hint of a smile.
My smile drops slightly when I notice the look on her face, her eyes a tinge of red. I could only imagine what was going through her mind, one person who I despised; Chris. I try to push the thoughts from my mind as my free hand clenches up into a fist before releasing them and letting it fall to my side. I let out a slow breath as I reach forward and grab hold of her arm lightly while I pull her toward the parking lot where I’d parked my SUV. Once we reach the car, I manage to pull the keys from my pocket and press the button so I could unlock the door.
After I unlock the car, I open the passenger side door for her before I go over so I could set the case of beer down in the back seat. I shut the door after I put the case down beside the blankets I had lying there on the seat. Why blankets, you ask? The blankets were there for the sole purpose of where I was taking Sidney. It was a nice spot down by the lake a little ways from campus.
I slam the door shut before I hurry around to the driver’s side. Once in my spot, I shut the door and secure my safety belt, I stick the key in the ignition before turning it on. I pull out of the spot after I turn the headlights on so I could see where I was going. As I begin to pull out from the spot where I was parked, I glance over at Sidney. She let out a small sigh and looks at me, eyes shining under the lights.
“Where are we going?” she asks with a small smile.
“Somewhere, you’ll have to wait and see, love,” I reply with a smile as I turn my focus back to the road ahead of me. She just lets a huff from her lips and I can’t help but smile at that.
“Damn, wish you could tell me, save the torture,” she replies with a slight laugh. I reach over and turn the radio on, because I wanted to listen to something. A song by Kings of Leon was playing; Use Somebody. I turn it up a bit and tap my fingers along with the beat as I drove.
“Well, it’s some place a little ways from campus, that’s all I’m goin’ to say,” I tell her with a smile. We keep the small talk to a minimum as I drive so I don’t get sidetracked by her. Before I can stop myself, words leave my mouth and I curse at myself at the way it sounded as it slipped past my lips.
“What did he do?” I ask her; my eyes on the road and I clench my hands against the steering wheel at the thought, while I drive. She lets out a frustrated sigh and doesn’t respond. After a minute or two, she opens her mouth to speak.
“Bitched at me when I was headed to meet you,” she replies. I roll my eyes and scoff at her remark and can’t help the smirk that makes its way to my face as I think back to the mark I left on his face when I punched him earlier. A good fifteen minutes later, I am now turning down a dirt road that led to the spot where I was taking her.
I reach forward and turn the knob of the stereo down as we got closer to the lake. As I slowly drive down the dirt path, I could hear the branches and leaves crunch underneath the tires of my SUV. I bring the car to a slow stop and soon turn off the engine before I remove the keys.
“Can you tell me where we are, now?” she asks with a slight laugh as I undo my safety belt and look over at her.
“Impatient, aren’t we?” I smirk as I reach over and open the door.
Sidney laughs a bit and rolls her eyes before reaching over to open the door and climb out but I stop her. I put a hand on her shoulder lightly and tell her I got it. She just lets out a small laugh and sits back, crossing her arms over her chest. After I climb out, I loop my finger through the chain on the key and slam the door shut. I hurry around the front of the car and around to the passenger side where she was.
Once I reach for the door, I pull it open. She grabs hold of my hand that I hold out for her to take and steps down onto the gravel road, her converse crunching atop the leaves. As she stands there, arms crossed over her chest, she smiles a bit as I open up the back door so I could grab the cases of beer along with the blanket that I swung over my shoulder and slammed the door shut with my foot.
“You comin’ love or just gon’ enjoy the view?” I joke as I begin to trek toward the edge of the river bank, blanket in one hand and the beer in the other. She rolls her eyes and lets out a small laugh from her lips.
We were in a woodsy area with trees and wildlife surrounding us. Even through a million branches and tree limbs, this was still the best place to sit and watch the stars on a night like this. Perfect and quiet. I could hear her footsteps close behind crunching against the asphalt. Even though it was dark, I could still tell where I was going, the light from the moon shining down, which was bright as hell.
I soon find a spot on some grass and drop the blankets on the ground. With my open hand, the other one holding the case of beer, I spread them both out on the grass best I can before setting the case of beer down atop the blanket. I plop down on the soft material and pat the spot beside me, the case of beer close to where I was.
She just nods her head in agreement and takes a seat beside me. I grab the case of beer and pull two out, one for each of us. “Want one?” I offer one to her as I pop the top off one of them and hold it out to her in question.
“I could use one,” she mumbles and reaches to grab the bottle from my hand and brings it up to her lips, taking a long sip. I toss the cap of the bottle to the ground not really caring where it went. I soon manage to pop the top off the other beer and toss it to where I threw the other one before bringing it to my lips and taking a swig.
For the next few minutes, the two of us drink a few more and go on about whatever comes to mind. I can’t help but laugh drunkenly at how I decked Chris in the face earlier. He was a fucking dick head and I wanted him gone, away from Sidney, better yet, from here, for good. I’m sure she wanted it too. I want to keep her safe and be able to call her mine, my girlfriend and hopefully more but I didn’t want to rush it, even if I want to kiss her again, which I do. Plus, what the hell can the bastard do to me, or her, when we’re far enough away from where his ass is at that stupid bonfire on campus.
Just as I open my mouth to speak some stupid thought that came to mind, I am cut off by her lips pressing against my own in a kiss, a drunken kiss. I can’t help but move my arms to her waist as I begin to kiss her back, resting my hands on her sides. A few seconds go by and she pulls away and runs a hand through her hair, messing it up a bit, mumbling some nonsense as she scoots back a bit, eyes wide.
“S-sorry I d-didn’t…I didn’t mean to do that, I uh, got a b-bit d-distracted…” she mumbles moving her eyes away from mine quickly and pulling herself out of my grip on her.
"It's 'lright, babe, no worries," I mutter as I stare at her, wanting to gaze into her eyes blue as the ocean.
