Alex Pov.

As I led Sofia towards her grandma's house, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that nagged at the back of my mind. Despite my reservations, I knew it wouldn't be fair to leave her behind.

"Are you ready to see grandma?" I asked her, and she nodded with a smile. I turned around, checking to see if anyone was watching us, before announcing, "Let's hit the road!"

A short drive later, we found ourselves standing in front of the house, and I knocked on the door. It wasn't long before the door creaked open, revealing Sofia's grandma, Rosa.

"Ah, Sofia! Mi niña!" Rosa cried out as she pulled her granddaughter into a warm embrace. "Hola, Rosa. How have you been?" I asked, and her eyes lit up as she saw me. "It's been such a long time, mi hijo. I barely recognized you!" she said before giving me a hug.

"Yeah, it's been a while," I replied, and she gestured for us to come inside. "But first, let me make some tea. Make yourselves at home."

The familiar scent of the house brought back memories as I took a seat, while Sofia perused old photos. Rosa returned with a cup of tea for me and a glass of milk for Sofia. She took a seat beside me and said in Spanish, "Estoy preocupada." (I am worried)

"Why?" I asked, curious. "Me están mirando. Todos los días los veo afuera," (They are lurking, everyday I see them outside) she replied, likely wanting to keep the conversation private from Sofia. "They are after Sofia. If they find her, they can kill her."

"But why? Sofia hasn't done anything," I argued, my heart sinking at the thought.

"Revenge," was all Rosa said. "James did some bad things, and now they want the family to pay."

I was determined not to let that happen. Sofia didn't deserve to suffer for her uncle's mistakes. "I'll be careful. Don't worry, I won't let anyone harm her," I reassured her, before recounting the strange events of the morning and I told her about it.

"Ay, no, no! You need to leave!" Rosa cried out in a panic. "They know Sofia is in town. Leave now, I couldn't forgive myself if something happened to her." I hugged her again to calm her down. "Nothing is going to happen, I promise. I'll leave tonight just to be safe," I told her, gazing deeply into her eyes.

She nodded, and I left her alone with Sofia. Checking my phone, I saw a text from Sonny, asking if we could talk. I quickly replied that I was visiting James's parents, but would be back home that night.

With a heavy heart, I approached Sofia and said, "Unfortunately, we have to go now." She looked disappointed, but Rosa stepped in, telling her, "Grandma is feeling very tired, but you can come visit again soon, okay?" Although it looked like there was more she wanted to say, she just nodded and said goodbye, giving us both hugs and kisses.

"Let's go," I said, taking Sofia's hand. "Take care," Rosa whispered to me as I hugged her one last time, and we left the house.

After bidding farewell to Grandma's abode, I made a beeline for our hotel and set about packing our belongings while Sofia took in some TV.

"Feeling peckish, love?" I asked her, and upon receiving a nod, I picked up the hotel phone and called room service. Just as I hung up, my phone lit up with a text from Sonny: "Can I call?" I couldn't help but wonder what had brought him out of the blue after all this time.

"Sure thing," I replied, and before I could blink, my phone was ringing.

"Hey there! What have you got cooking?" Sonny asked.

"Just packing up and getting ready to head back," I answered.

"Why the sudden departure?" he probed.

"Some strange occurrences have been taking place, but I'd rather not delve into it just yet. What's the deal with this sudden call after all this time?" I asked, intrigued.

"I just had the sudden urge to reach out and say hello. If it's not a good time, I can hang up," Sonny offered.

"No, no, it's fine. It's good to catch up," I replied, feeling a wave of emotion wash over me. "Crazy things have been happening, that's for sure."

"If you're up for it, when you get back, let's grab a coffee and chat it out. I've had a lot of time to think and I want to try and make things right," he suggested, sending my mind into a whirlwind of possibility.

"Really? That sounds fantastic," I replied, unable to hide the excitement in my voice.

"Alright, I'll let you get back to packing. Talk to you tomorrow," he said before hanging up.

I hung up the phone with a grin plastered on my face. "Daddy's happy," Sofia chimed in, giggling. "Yeah, Daddy's happy," I replied, pulling her into a hug. A knock on the door jolted me back to reality and I answered it to find a room service lady waiting with our food. "Thank you, I'll take it from here," I said, taking the tray and closing the door. "Dinner time!" I exclaimed, causing Sofia's eyes to light up. We sat down to eat and I continued packing as she chowed down.

I shot off a text to my mom, letting her know our plans had changed and she bombarded me with questions. I decided to spill the beans and she freaked out, but I managed to calm her down and she offered to look after Sofia if needed. I was grateful for her offer and focused on finishing up the packing. I still couldn't believe that Sonny had reached out and wanted to give things another shot. The last I heard from him, he was denying Sofia was his, but now it seems he's had a change of heart.

With a smile on my face, I hit the hay, confident that tomorrow was going to be another magnificent day. What could possibly go wrong?
