Noah pov
"Of course!" I replied to Alex, feeling surprised but also happy that I could help. "I have plenty of room and since you're asking, I'm guessing it's serious. I'll send you my address." After exchanging a few more words, the conversation ended. Glancing at my phone, I couldn't help but smile.
"Why are you grinning like a Cheshire cat?" my assistant asked, looking up at me.
"It's nothing," I told her, trying to focus on the meeting. But my mind kept wandering to the upcoming visit.
After the meeting, I received a text from Alex asking if it was okay for them to come over that night. I agreed, then quickly sent a message to my butler.
"Noah: 'Vik, we're having visitors stay at the house. Could you make everything ready? I want them to feel at home.'
Vik: 'Of course, sir. I'll get everything ready.'
Noah: 'Oh! Could you please make the room kid-friendly and maybe get some toys? Alex has a daughter.'
Vik: 'I'll see what I can do.'
Noah: 'Thanks!'"
I couldn't wait to have some company. Lately, I had been stuck doing the same thing over and over again. I had taken over the company from my father and grown up not knowing what the word 'poor' meant, but he had always kept me in touch with reality. Sometimes, though, it could be hard to break out of the routine. After hearing about what had happened to Alex and his company, I was even more willing to help.
Unlike me, he had worked his butt off to build his company from the ground up. I had received my position on a silver platter, but I still worked hard to maintain it. However, Alex's drive and success from a young age always impressed me. When he approached me with a partnership opportunity, I was ecstatic.
Checking my watch, I saw that I still had some time to kill before the visit. I had more boring meetings ahead, and I just wasn't in the mood for that. I called in my assistant. "Can you please cancel all my meetings? I'm leaving early today."
"Of course," he replied before leaving the room. It was good to be your own boss sometimes.
Alex Pov.
I couldn't believe the size of Noah's house. The entry alone could fit 50 people. "I don't even know how to thank you for this," I say to him, and he just smiles. "A drink would do it," he says. That's all he wants? I nod and follow him around as he excitedly shows us around. He's like a giant baby, and I find myself laughing. "What's funny, Daddy?" Sofia says. I pat her on the head. "It's nothing, beautiful."
Noah opens the door to the bedroom and says, "I'm guessing that Sofia wants to sleep with her daddy, so we made it kid-friendly." Sofia's eyes widen as she sees the room. "I've never seen that many toys in my life!" she exclaims and runs in to play with them. "You really didn't have to do this much," I tell him. "I know, but I really wanted to," he says. "I'll have Vik look after her. Let's go down and drink some coffee." He suggests, and I nod.
We sit outside in a little spot overlooking the huge garden with lights illuminating everything. The night sky is full of stars. It's weird that he has butlers. I'm so used to doing everything myself. "It's a really big house that you have here," I tell him while taking a sip of coffee. "I know. It's too big if you ask me, but it's kind of a must in our family. But living in a big house isn't luxury if you're alone. The bigger the house, the lonelier you realize you are," he says with a sad smile on his face. "I'm guessing you have all those people in the house to not feel as lonely?"
Noah nods. "You can say that. Work can really get me stuck. I'm really happy that I have Vik helping me out." He takes another sip of coffee. "He's someone important, huh?" I ask. Noah nods. "Yeah, he is. I really don't know what I would have done without him." I know exactly how that feels.
"You know, if you're not ready to tell me what's going on, you don't have to," Noah says to my surprise. "But I have many good connections," he says with a cute smirk. "Connections?" I ask, confused.
"Yeah, I know a lot of people. Of course, I don't know what it is, but if I could ever do anything to help you out more, then please don't hold back." I don't understand why this guy wants to help me so much, but I'm glad. It feels like I can tell him everything. "I really shouldn't be telling you this, but in case they found out where we are, I need to tell you." I inform him, and then I tell him everything. He stares at me in shock.
"So they're after Sofia?" I nod. "I'm a little stuck on what to do," I say. Why do I keep telling him so much? He puts a hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry," he says before standing up.
