Alex pov

I gazed at Sofia as she played with her toys. So, I'm going to be a dad again? I am thrilled about it, but I can't help but worry. "Daddy?" Sofia's voice interrupted my thoughts. I turned to her. "Are you sad?" she asked. She must have noticed my worried expression. "No, sweetie," I replied, walking over to her and giving her a hug. Suddenly, I felt calmer, and my heart melted as I felt her hands on my back. I could have had all the worries in the world, but a hug from Sofia could really make everything better. "Daddy is going to work tomorrow, and you're staying with grandma, okay?" She nodded. I didn't want her to go to kindergarten, at least not now, when I knew that people were after her. She was safer with my mom. "Let's brush our teeth," I said to her, and we went to the bathroom to get ready for bed.

"Daddy," Sofia said while lying in her bed, looking up at me. "So papa is in heaven, where is that?" It was the second time she had asked about him, so I had to think for a bit before replying to her. "Well, papa is up in the sky," I said. "So, papa is always looking after me?" she asked, looking up at me. "But I don't hear papa," she said, sounding a bit sad. "It's because he is busy listening to all of your thoughts," I replied, trying to comfort her. "Papa reads my mind?" she asked, looking shocked. I laughed. "Yeah. But if he was here right now, I am sure he would say that he loves you very much." She smiled. "How did you guys meet?" she asked. I smiled. "It's a long story," I said. "Pretty please, daddy," she pleaded. I gave up and decided to tell her.

"It was a very long time ago. I was only 10 when I laid my eyes on James. I remember playing with my friends, and James came by with his. At first, I didn't say anything to him because I didn't really have anything to say. But we saw their group many times at the park where we always played. James' friends always liked to have fun and weren't always so nice, but James was quiet most of the time. One day, we were playing football, and they asked if they could join. We said of course, and then we started playing. They got mad because they lost the game and said that they didn't want to play with us and called us cheaters. But James had fun and wanted to play some more with us, so he stayed with our group, and he never left. I must admit that in the beginning, we didn't have anything in common at all, but we connected when we both found out that we had the same childhood experiences. However, he had a different version than mine. I wanted to be successful and move out of that bad environment, but he wanted to stay there and be a part of it-

-At first, I didn't think he was very bright, but I was intrigued by the way he saw the world. So, I stuck around and we became closer. One day, he said something to me that has stayed with me ever since. He said, "Let your weakness be your strongest power. Don't change, just improve. Because at the end of the day, there is only one of you, and you can only be the best version of yourself." As I looked at my daughter, Sofia, playing with her teddy bear, I couldn't help but think of those words.

"Papa was very clever in his own way," I told her, kissing her goodnight. She repeated the word "clever" back to me, and I smiled. "Yes, just like you," I said, before leaving the room.

I went to my own bedroom, lost in thought. Memories flooded back, and I found myself dwelling on that sentence James had told me. It felt like it could be useful right now.

I opened my laptop, determined to get some work done. It had been a while since I had worked on anything, and I needed to get back in the game. I decided to reach out to Noah, someone I had been hoping to work with for a while.

"Hey Noah, it's Alex. I think it's time that we start to make some deals and work together. I know there have been a lot of obstacles in the past, but let's meet up when you have time."

I hit send and waited. After a few minutes, I received a response from Noah.

"Hello Alex, I know you've been busy with personal stuff, but you're right. It's time to work on our partnership. I'll look at my schedule and get back to you on a date. Stay healthy."

I smiled, feeling like a weight had been lifted. I replied with a quick message, saying it sounded like a deal, and went back to work on my laptop.

Once I had put my daughter Sofia to bed, I headed to my own bedroom to get some much-needed rest. But I found myself unable to doze off. My mind was racing with thoughts about the danger Sofia was facing, and what I could do to protect her. As her father, it was my responsibility to keep her safe, yet I hadn't done anything to find out who was after her.

I realized that I needed to take action and hire some people to investigate the matter. The thought of someone hurting my daughter was unbearable, and my focus needed to be on resolving this issue. I quickly opened my laptop and sent a message to a friend who worked in the police department, asking for their help. I kept the message short, but they knew from the urgency of it that it was something important.

Next, I needed to sort out a few things. I made a mental note to settle my deal with Noah and get everything organized. It was a bit of a mess, but I knew that if I tackled things one step at a time, I could make progress.

To ensure that Sofia was safe while I was busy, I called my mother and asked her if she could look after her for a while. She agreed without any hesitation, which was a relief. Finally, I messaged James's parents to see if they had any useful information that could help me in my search.

It felt good to take some proactive steps and not just wait around for something to happen. Sonny''s pregnancy was also on my mind, but right now, my priority was Sofia's safety. I closed my laptop and went back to sleep.
