Chapter 5: thank you

My eyes squeezed shut. I didn't want to watch it. But then I heard grunting and metal clattering on the floor. I opened my eyes just a fraction and I saw Blake on the floor with Louis on top. I just watched them wrestling each other, with each second Blake was getting towards the knife. I couldn't move an inch but I knew I had to grab the knife before he does. I'm paralysed with fear. My limbs was as frozen as ice. I watched Blake grab the knife and swiped for Louis.

Watching that in slow motion made my limbs move again. It was like a radar. I lunged forward and grabbed Blake's arm. But not before he cut a wide gash in Louis arm. He hissed in pain and I tried not to let go of Blake's arm.

Just then, Jenna decides to walk through the door. She screamed and ran out. I was hoping she had the good sense to call the police.

I twisted his arm until he let go of the knife. When the knife clattered on the floor I kicked it away. By that time Louis tried to help as much as he could. He kicked Blake's guy but Blake didn't show any signs of pain. He just sat there trying to get up and away from me. But I wouldn't budge, I clung on to him as if I was a koala hanging on a tree.

The police barged in and two men grabbed Blake's arms. I gasped out as one of Blake's legs came down on my ribs hard.

'This isn't the end, Ali! I'm not going to stop until I get what I want' he screamed out as the police took him away. Jenna ran in through the door and wrapped her arms around my waist. She was sobbing and I was gasping. She let go of me and I walked right over to Louis.

He was examining his arm and when he caught sight of me walking towards him, he started walking as well. The tears came down, hard and fast. I hugged him and gripped onto him so tightly. He hugged me back, I feel so safe on his arms. He practically saved my life, I will never be able to repay him. I sobbed so hard.

'It's okay. It's over now, don't cry. You're safe' he repeated over and over. My eyes wouldn't stop. The years would come straight out. It started to stain his shirt and I finally got the courage to pull away.

'Thank you' I whispered.

'You're welcome' he whispered back. I stared into his sea green eyes and found tears swimming in them.

'Don't cry, you don't have to cry.' I told him. I tried to comfort him like he was trying to comfort me. He didn't reply to me but he hugged me even tighter.

'Let's get you two to the hospital' Jenna said in between breaths.

She drove us down to the hospital and checked us in. Me and Louis got beds next to each other. I watched as they cleaned it and stitch it back together. He had to get 8 stitches, the poor thing.

My ribs were broken but they patched it up and told me not to do too much physical activity. We got leave straight after and Jenna drove us home.

'Can I crash here? I don't feel like going home' Louis asked me.

'Anything for you, you did save my life' I smiled at him. I looked at the couch and it looked way too small for him.

'You can sleep in my room and i'll just sleep in my parents' room.'' I told him.

'Nah, it's okay. I'll just take the couch.'

'it wasn't an option' I said to him. I grabbed his hand and reeled him up the staircase. Once we got to the door to my room, I turned around to him.

'Rule number one, you do not touch anything. Rule number two, you do not look through anything you know you shouldn't. And the most crucial rule, do not move anything off the floor. It's where I put them and it's where they belong.' I listed the rules of my room. I was being totally serious. He looked at me, slightly aghast then his face turned into a smirk.

'"Do not look through anything you're not supposed to" and what would that be? Your underwear drawer?' he said jokingly.

'Shut up' I retorted, slapping his good arm. His face went into a little pout that was the most cutest thing ever.

'Don't act like that or else i'll put you onto the couch' I warned him. His expression changed quicker than a flash. He gave a light laugh.

'Can we go in now? I'm tired.' he asked. I was a bit disappointed he was tired. I wanted to talk to him.

He probably guessed there was something wrong because he said, 'well, I'm not that tired. But I just want to see your room.'

I chuckled at the way he back tracked. I opened the door to my room and I turned to see his reaction. His eyes widened at the stuff on the floor.

'Oh my god, you're as messy as me! Finally, a girl who understands how my room is supposed to be' as he said that, I giggled. I expected him to be one of those guys with clean as rooms.

'I like your laugh' he blurted out. I blushed and looked to the ground. I quickly changed the subject because my heart started to race.

'Erm, will you be okay here?'

'Yeah, sure. Can we talk for a bit though? I want to talk to you.'

'Yeah, sure.' I walked in and sat in the middle of the bed with my legs crossed and facing him. He sat in front of me and mimicked my position.

'Okay, i'll start with the obvious. Who was that guy?'

I knew this question was going to pop up soon enough. But honestly, I don't want to talk about it. I don't want to tell him how I became his girlfriend. Or how I got into his little schemes. Or why he wanted to get me back. But I needed to tell someone. Jenna already knew but I know I have to tell someone new. I need tell someone else just for it to be different.

'He's my ex boyfriend. We were together for a year. And four months ago, I sent him to jail because he tried to kill his parents. He abused me but I didn't do anything about it. I was to scared to.' I told him and my eyes started to fill up with tears again. Louis pulled me in for a hug and I just stayed there. I slowly slid down and somehow my head ended up in his lap. I looked up into his face and I can tell he had more questions.

'How did he get to you?'

'He made me feel so special. I was going through a rough time when I met him. My ex bestfriend Janelle went off at me for doing something I never did. He told me he believed me. He told me he loved me as soon as he saw me. We were perfectly fine for the first four or five months. Then he turned psychopathic and started hurting me and others.'

'Wow, and you did nothing?'

'No, I was too scared.'

'You don't have to be anymore, I'm here and I will always protect you.'

'One question from me before I sleep.'

'Shoot.'

'Why did you come here?'

'I wanted to surprise you and see you again. But instead I saw Blake about to stab you so yeah I grabbed him.'

'Thank you so much' I whispered, half asleep. I tried to get up but Louis stopped me.

'You can stay here with me.' he said.

'Mm' was all I could get out. Then I drifted off into sleep.
