Mifune was in utter shock, to say the least, as Saki fled from the scene. She had looked beautiful in the short amount of time he’d seen her, with a flowing dress and curled hair, only, the horror on her face changed the beauty into something much less.

The Meister’s eyes had lit up as she gaped at a broad-shouldered man with olive eyes hidden behind glasses, and when she spoke his name, Mifune couldn’t help but be in a state of denial.

Her brother was dead, after all.

She had been past excited, until her eyes shifted sideways, and she fumbled backwards, grimacing as their iron gate cut open the skin on her back. Saki had spit a curse, before turning on her heel and fleeing, leaving Mifune shaken and confused.

Of course, he followed her.

He always would.

“Saki!” the samurai yelled, throwing open the door and enveloping Saki in a hug when he saw the tears streaming down her cheeks.

“I-I’m sorry,” Saki hiccuped. “I ruined our wedding!”

She buried her face into his collarbone, gulping air into her lungs.

“Hey,” Mifune whispered, stroking her hair awkwardly, considering her veil was in the way. “Don’t worry about that right now. Just… just tell me what’s the matter.”

Silence. Saki pulled away, and began pacing the hall, rubbing at her neck harshly. “It’s my brother,” she stated, “he’s here.”

“I saw,” Mifune muttered. “Isn’t that good? Why’d you insult him and run?”

Saki heaved a sigh. “I wasn’t insulting him,” she explained. “It was directed toward someone else.”

“Please do elaborate,” he said, sounding agitated without meaning to.

“Logan. I was insulting Logan,” she shakily drew in another deep breath. “God, I never thought I’d have to say that name again. Or ever see him.”

He grabbed her wrist, stopping her short. “You aren’t making any sense! Spit it out already!”

She glared at him, and yanked herself from his grip. “He was my first love. And my first heartbreak.”

“Okay…” he trailed off. “How does this apply now exactly?”

She bit her lip, and shut her eyes. Then, when he thought she was about to run, or refuse to tell him anything, she broke into a story. “Do you remember when you found me in that alley?” He nodded, still confused. “Well, I had just had a… a miscarriage. The baby… it was his.”

He took a slight step back. “You’re saying…”

“I didn’t have a good life before you, Mifune, alright? I thought you knew that!” she shrieked.

“And I thought we didn’t lie to each other!”

Saki inhaled sharply. “You want the truth, do you? Everything you don’t know? Fine, then. Here it is.

“Kota wasn’t… he wasn’t as good as I made him look. He hurt me, and I didn’t know any better. I didn’t think it was wrong. I thought that was how siblings interacted. So, after he died, or, at least, I thought he had, I was happier than I should’ve been.”

“Saki…” Mifune began.

“You wanted the truth, and I’m giving it to you. Stop interrupting.

"Anyways, three years after that, I was mulling around Arachnophobia, running an errand for Arachne, when a man approached me. Then, well, I suppose you can figure out for yourself what happens next. He assaulted me, and a few months later, I ended up in the alley, and you found me. You saved me, Mifune.”

Mifune was caught off guard, and he had to clutch at the banister to keep from becoming too dizzy with anger. His vision clouded red, and his thoughts became hazy, the only clear thing that could be formed was his incent to right the wrong. He had a coward to deal with.

“Mifune,” Saki pleaded, and it took him a moment to realize that she had been calling his name. “Mifune, please. Talk to me!”

“Who is he?” Was all the samurai said.

“Who is who?” Saki demanded.

“Who is the one who hurt you?”

“Logan,” she whispered, defeated. “I already told you. But please, don’t kill him. I don’t want that on my conscious.”

“He has every reason to die!” Mifune growled. “Anyone who hurts you, they will suffer, and I will make sure they do.”

“Mifune, please, can’t you see sense? He may have an explanation--”

He cut her off. “Why are you so willing to give up?”

“Because it was in the past! I am tired of living in the hell that was my past! I want to forget, don’t you see it? I need space," she nodded, as if to herself. "That’s what I need. To get away from every bad memory and every person who’s hurt me, and so far, two of them are right behind those doors.”

She was hysterical now, her fingers shaking as she pointed dramatically toward the backyard.

“Saki… what’re you saying?”

“I’m saying,” she reached up and yanked out her veil, and her perfectly-done culs came tumbling down, “have fun exchanging your vows--without me.”
