“Mifune… I need to talk to you,” Saki said, twiddling with her thumbs.

“Me too,” Mifune announced, grinning. “Kid is going to use our children to create an immortal army.”

She stopped short. “Come again?”

“Well, he explained to me that because we’ll be thirty-two forever, he wants us to make him an army.”

She laughed nervously, taking a long gulp of her water. “And you really think that’s a good idea?”

“Well, he did promise us a raise from his father to afford said army.” He was smiling now, incredibly brightly, not sensing her anxiety.

“Well, then, of course we must,” Saki was starting to get her sarcasm back, but she still had a hint of worry in her voice.

“So, uh, my news,” Saki cleared her throat, “well, Mifune, I’m-”

In that moment, her demon spawn of a child rushed in, toothpaste coating her entire face, oozing and dripping onto the counter. “Mommy!” Skylar yelped. “I’m a snowman!”

Saki scoffed. “Right you are, dear, but now is no time for a snowman. They melt in the summertime, remember?”

Skylar seemed to be calculating this, as she rubbed her chin. “Oh, right! I’ll go become a girl again,” she decided.

“That is a great idea,” Saki agreed.

Once Skylar had pranced away, Mifune was too busy smiling to care that they were now out of toothpaste. Saki took the opportunity to strike.

“I wanted to talk to you,” she said.

“You did?” he asked, pulling out an apple and biting into it.

“I did,” she realized she was sweating now, and wiped her brow, “about children.”

He cocked his at her, then turned his back so he could began the dishes, setting the apple onto the counter. “What about them?”

“Well, do you want any more?”

Mifune flipped back around, leaning against the sink. He flashed her a grin, one that melted her heart into a pool of mush. “Of course.”

“Really?” Saki was flabbergasted. She knew Mifune loved children, but, then again, they already had four.

He walked to her and held both of her hands, kissing them. Again, her heart felt like candle wax, soft and easily molded. “Saki, I’ve always wanted kids, and you know that. I have them now, but I wasn't there to help in the early steps. I want to have that opportunity. So, yes, I want more children.”

She sniffled, and wrapped her hands around his neck. Mifune pulled her against him, sighing almost inaudibly against her mouth. Saki tangled her fingers in his long hair, and smiled. He was beaming too, and the next thing they knew, they were both chuckling as they kissed, and he lifted her onto the counter of the kitchen.

He was gasping for breath between a fit of laughter and kisses, as was she. Mifune backed away for a second, leaning his forehead against hers. They were still cackling, but Saki couldn’t help but feel something more than happiness. Something so strong, it was almost tangible.

“Mifune,” she said. It sounded breathy as she gulped air, but he could still make out her words well enough. “I’m… I’m pregnant.”
