Sans POV

I ran to the ruins doors, remembering that Toriel was going to be waiting. Today was the day she was going to make me promise to keep the kid safe. I looked at the doors with a fear lingering in my soul, but the wind tugged at my body, ordering me to go through with it. I continued to walk towards the doors, I have to get this over with some how. Or she'll lose faith in me. I sat down in the snow and knocked on the door.

"Oh, hello friend!" Said the warm, yet shaky voice.

"Hey, what's up?" I answered.

"The ceiling" she half-heartedly giggled.

"Heh, nice one. But, uh, you don't sound so enthused. What's wrong?"

She paused. "...If a human comes by here, can you promise me," she said in a grim voice, "to help them, and watch over them, will you not?"

I took a deep breath, knowing what needed to be said. "I promise."

There was a short silence before she answered, "thank you."

I sighed, "no problem. But I kind of have to go right now, Papyrus will be mad if I stay any longer."

"Okay, I'll talk to you later then."

And with that, I turned my back on the doors, and walked away silently, my footsteps being blown over by the wind. After I got tired of walking I teleported the rest of the way to my house, where Papyrus was waiting.

"Hello, Sans! You came just in time! I made dinner!" Papyrus called from the kitchen, his head poking out from behind the wall.

I smiled, a real smile. Papyrus could make anyone happy just by his personality. And I didn't want him to change, ever.

"Come on, Sans, sit down, the food's getting cold!" I snapped out of my thoughts and sat down with him. But for the whole time I ate, I couldn't stop thinking about what would happen the next day. It almost brought me to tears. I can't save him.

"Is something the matter, Brother? You're not eating much of your food."

"No, its fine. Just..." I paused, trying to think of an excuse.

"Just.. What, Sans?"

"My nightmares are getting worse..." I said. It was true, they've been clearer and scarier since the last reset.

Papyrus hugged me, then asked, "If I may ask, what are your nightmares about?" My brother had a worried expression plastered onto his face, it made me think if I should tell him the truth about my dreams.

"I.. dreamt that everyone died in the underground by a human... including you Paps." I said shakily.

"O-oh..." Papyrus sounded shocked. "Well, the Great Papyrus shall not let you down! I would never leave you."

My pupils disappeared as I looked down, leaving my eye sockets dark and empty with grief. "Yeah, sure." I looked back up at him. "Thanks, bro."

"No problem, Brother! Now you should get some sleep, you look exhausted, I'll handle the dishes." Papyrus gave me one last hug and then disappeared into the kitchen with the plates. I thanked him once again and made my way up the steps into my room.

Once I closed the door behind me, I let out a huge sigh. How am I gonna live with myself any longer? I slid down the door and started crying. How much longer can I keep going with this? I tried wiping my tears away with my sleeve, but soon failed and just sat staring into the empty essence of my room. Fuck it..

I got out my razor blade and started cutting myself, watching the blood drip onto the carpet. I let the stinging pain seep into my arms as I pulled my sleeves down, walked over to my bed, and lied down, shaking for what was about to happen the next day. I just hope this is the last time.

3rd POV

Sans woke up to Papyrus shaking him from another nightmare.

"Sorry..." Sans apologized, wiping his tears away.

Papyrus hugged him tightly. "Don't be sorry, Sans, you didn't do anything wrong."

"...thanks, Pap." Sans answered, getting out of bed.

Today was the day. The day everything goes wrong. The day Sans pleaded it wouldn't come. The day the human committed genocide.

Sans and Papyrus went to work with the taller begging for a human and the shorter dreading one. But Sans knew that the human would come. And that they were craving blood.

Once the human came out of the ruins doors, Sans did his usual greeting. But inside he was terrified. Once Papyrus showed up and started talking, Sans couldn't take it. He was having an inside panic attack. He didn't say anything until the human kept going, then teleported to Snowdin to warn everyone again.

Sans bashed into the first place he saw, which was the shop. "Lady! There's a dangerous human on the loose! Warn everyone!"

As Sans teleported back to Papyrus, they were already at the color puzzle. The teleporting was getting Sans drained, but he didn't care. All of Sans' worst fears were taking over his mind, and he nearly lost it and fainted. But he kept going for Papyrus. He had to.

Sans POV

Now the kid made it to Snowdin, and I was so surprised how fast they got here. But there was nothing to do anyway. Just wait until everything ended. I followed the human from behind the trees. Papyrus was waiting for them, and spoke to them with such kindness in his voice. How could the human decide to kill him? He did nothing wrong. We all did nothing wrong.

"Are you offering a hug of acceptance?" Papyrus asked, kneeling in front of the human. "I welcome you with open arms!" My breathing quickened, and my body tensed. I can't let this happen anymore, I can't let my brother die!

I teleported directly in front of Papyrus, with my arms outstretched. I was ready.

S l a s h . . .

The human's blade cut through my jacket and shirt and into my chest. I coughed up blood as my brother panicked.

"SANS!! Oh my god, Sans, let me get you somewhere where people can help you!"

The human wore a sick grin on their face, clearly enjoying the show.

"I-it's t.. too late, P-Pap..." I managed to say, then extended a bloody hand out to him. "G-grab my hand... quick."

Papyrus did as he was told and I teleported us out of there and landed in our house. "P-Papyrus... Promise.. me, t-to never l-leave this house... until it's.. s-safe." I broke into a coughing fit again as more blood splattered onto my sweater.

"I-I promise, Sans, but you're going to be here with me, right?" Papyrus implored.

I shook my head and shakily stuttered, "g-goodbye, Papyrus..."

"NononoNONO! SANS DON'T GO, PLEASE!-" I didn't want to stay any longer, I didn't want to see my brother so upset, so I teleported to wherever I could go.
