Four Heroes

The wind blew delicately through the trees as two figures walked along the dirt path that split through the forest. One of the figures, a female, walked slightly more ahead than the other, a male. They were both equipped with weapons and each carried satchels on their backs.

The female was quite small and of the age of fifteen. She wore a black high-collared top with a purple sleeveless vest over it. Loose white breeches covered her legs along with black knee-high boots laced up. Over her attire was a pitch-black long coat that reached just passed her knees and fluttered in the wind. Grey finger-less gloves stopped at her elbows and on her back, two long-bladed daggers sat, the hilts both holding a black circled gem. Her dark-brown hair tumbled down to her shoulders with her bangs pinned back by a clip. She had strange purple eyes that seemed emotionless and bored constantly.

The girl was enjoying the silence as she and her companion walked along. They had been out on a job of hunting down some monsters that had been leftover from the previous Catastrophe. The mission had them busy for about a week and, if speaking honestly, the dark-haired girl just wanted nothing more than to rest in her own bed.

"Yo, Umi?" the male companion spoke up, lifting his arms and linking his hands behind his head. The purple-eyed girl, addressed as 'Umi', glanced at him and hummed in response.

"Do you think we can head to the market once we get home?" the companion asked. "I had to make sure we didn't have too much in the pantry before we left for the job, otherwise the house would be crawling with rats and rotting food."

The girl smiled slightly at her friend and nodded. "Sure, if you'd like, we could pay a quick visit to Erhard."

The boy's eyes sparkled with joy to hear the suggestion and nodded happily. The male companion was much taller than his purple-eyed friend, as she only reached his shoulder height. He had blue hair that flopped down passed his ears and its length stopped around his chin. His eyes were an even brighter blue and held a childish gleam in them. He wore a white buttoned-down t-shirt under a black sleeveless leather shirt, which was used for armour, and forest green pants with black boots like his companion's. Finger-less metal gloves covered his hands and over his shoulders sat a sleeveless grey coat, again, like his companion's. His age looked about eighteen years, but his personality was more childish than mature.

"I'd like that." the boy said and raised his blue eyes towards the clear sky above. "I'm surprised the king hasn't found out about you yet."

Umi let out a quiet chuckle, a smile gracing her lips. "True, though, not that I mind. The rumours I've about him from the neighbouring countries make me glad that he hasn't found out about me. To him, I am seen as nothing more than a humble traveller."

The blue-haired boy laughed along and caught up with his friend. The silence of their long journey, caused by tiredness and a little hunger, had now vanished as they chatted away happily.

"We should probably make a list once we get home, Hyde," Umi stated as the trees on each side of the path had died off and were now replaced by open fields and plains. Hyde, the blue-haired boy, placed a hand on his chin in thought before turning back to his friend.

"What are you thinking for tonight's dinner?" he asked, knowing full well that Umi couldn't cook and that he'd be left to the kitchen work, as always.

It was now Umi's turn to think and many dishes passed threw her mind. She hummed in her thoughts before looking at Hyde with a smile and pleading eyes. "Can we check the fish stall and see did they catch any place?"

Hyde smiled, knowing that she was thinking of his famous Plaice Stew. It was the first meal Umi had when she arrived into this world and since then, it had been her favourite dish.
