Endless trees whipped past as David drived you to your house. You'd just been out on a lunch date, but the sun was still up, and you were both bored out of your minds. Almost everywhere fun was closed today, and the only thing left to do was to go back home.
"You should come in and meet my parents, babe," you murmur lazily.
He pouted. "But I'm scared," he whined. "What if they don't like me?" He was silent for a moment, before adding, "But then again, how could they not?"
You laugh. "They're fine, you'll love them, they'll love you, we'll be one big happy family and love happily ever after."
He bites his lip. "They better..."
The trees cleared out, giving you a better view of your town. Towering houses built of marble and stone whipped past you, and you could see David's dazed expression as he drived past.
"Woah," he muttered as you gave him directions. "Are we lost?"
More houses passed by, large and elegant looking in the afternoon haze. "Nope," you assured. You pointed to a large, white house at the end of the block. "Home sweet home."
David's eyes narrowed as he pulled up. "Woah," he repeated. You instantly stepped out of the car and began making your way up to the path to your grand front door. David ran up beside you.
"Cas', are you rich or something? Like, a princess I should know about?"
You giggle. "My daddy's a mob leader, babe, remember?" You continue up the path, ignoring his slack-jawed reaction. He scurries up behind you again, grabbing your arm until you come to a halt. You whip around, face to face with him. "What?"
He shakes his head, as if shaking off a bad dream. "What?! You're dad is a mobster, that's what."
You roll your eyes. "He doesn't bite, hun..."
His cheeks heated up. "You know I'm not good with that stuff. I was already scared to meet him. Now I'm not gonna do it."
You are instanty hit with a pang of guilt, regret, and embarassment. "Y-you really won't?" You try to cover the hurt in your voice.
His face softened. "What can I even say to him? He probably expects me to be all tough, and mean..." He looks at you with forlorn eyes. "I'm sorry Cas'. I just ca-"
You're both cut off by a loud, gruff laugh. You whip around and grin. "Hi, Daddy!" you chirp, shooting David a sideways glance. His face drains of color, and can barely choke out a word.
Your dad's eyes widen. For a moment, he studies David with icy, stern eyes, the look he gives you when you get in trouble. Your breath catches in your throat. Awkward didn't even begin to describe it.
David gulped, visibly shaking. "H-hi, Mr. {Y/L/N}... I was j-just bringing your daughter home..." He shot you an apologetic look. "I'll talk to you later," he muttered, shoving his hands in his pockets, turning away to his car.
"Wait," your father's voice booms. David freezes, and you could feel the regret in the air. He turns slowly.
"Y-yes, sir?"
Your dad nods. "David, right?"
His cheeks flush, and he nods quickly. "Yes..."
Slowly, a smile tugs at the corner of your dad's lips, and he releases a hearty laugh, much to David's surprise, and your own.
"I've heard good things about you son! You treat my daughter well? Anything I should know about?"
David stammers. "N-no... I mean, yes, I do... she..." He looks up at you and smiles, sincerely this time. "She's lovely." You giggle and look at you dad hopefully.
He leans up close to David, narrowing his eyes. You see his hands curl into fists, so tight that his knuckles turn white.
"I only got one thing to say to you, Scarzone."
David gulps and looks at you for help. "Y-yes, sir?"
Another smile.
"Welcome to the family."
