When the meeting was disbanded, everyone was off, with the afternoon to their selves. We leave for the mission tomorrow, maybe I should pack up my clothes for the trip. I was about to walk towards my room to prepare for the trip when I saw a familiar red android in the living room, alone.
I look at Vision staring at the chess pieces on the checker board, a black queen rolling in his fingers as he looked over the white and black chess pieces. As if he was trying to think of his next move, despite the fact that he wasn't playing against anyone an the fact that he didn't have to even think to know how to win.
I sighed, thinking of how angry he was back at the meeting room and his heartbroken face when I said no to his pitiful confession. I'm not saying he can't feel, it's just he doesn't understand the concept as fully as he would confess to someone.
But, I don't want to leave the relationship to be fragile as it is now. At least not when I'm about to be off to the mission.
I walk over to Vision, playing with the pieces. "Hey." is the only word I could think to say at the moment.
When Vis catches me in front of him, he looks up at me and smiles politely, "Good afternoon, Miss. Maximoff." says putting down the black queen piece next to his black king.
The tone is so cold despite that polite smile, I look down at the set up chess pieces. All the pawns lined up, protecting it's king, along with his queen. I touch the leather seat sitting behind the white chess pieces, facing Vision and his black chess pieces. "May I sit?"
"Please."
I awkwardly sat down, the cold surface of the leather making me feel small. "Want to have a round? I mean- have a chess round." I coughed from the accidental dirty joke, chess round? Seriously?!
Vis looks at me with a confused look, "Y-Yes, what other round would you be talking about?" he asks, his naiveness blinding him. I sighed relived, that this guy was an idiot. "Ladies first." he replied politely.
I put my pawn out first, while Vis does the same with me responding to his attacks. "I... just wanted to say.... thanks for trying to defend me back at the meeting room." Putting my knight in front of my pawn.
Vision takes my white knight out with his black pawn, "It wasn't much, I only said those things because you weren't qualified enough and would most likely lead the Avengers to their shame." he picked my fallen knight by the horse's head and place it down to his territory.
I wince from my knight being taken away and his harsh words. "Huh." I look up at him, his cold stare meeting me. "Maybe you're right." I replied, putting out my rook. "But, part of being human is to live and learn." He looks down at the chess board, reaching for his pawn then looks back at me, I smiled back despite his cold stare. "I may fail today, but I know that I'll learn and do better next time."
"Yes it is very human like of you. However..." he reaches out to take out my white rook with his black knight piece. "...It is also quite foolish..." taking my white rook, placing it next to my fallen knight.
I start to get frustrated not able to think of the game anymore. "If you think that is foolish, then you should take a look at yourself!" I said, a bit scared of what he might say, but I didn't let him see that side of me. I bring out my white queen next to my king.
"Oh?" he says moving his pieces forward. "Weren't you the one that said I wasn't human?"
"I never said that!"
"It was directed!" he yells back, for the first time he was angry, angry at me.
I'm shocked by his sudden lash out, but I don't speak instead I look down at the chessboard to see his black king right in front of my white king, one move and I would lose. However it was my move and I finally found a loophole to his plan, my queen was sitting next to my king I could easily take out the threatening black king and finally win the game. Vis quickly notices his mistake, he must've made a mistake being distracted from his sudden lash out.
I reach out for my queen that would've been the winning piece for the game, but stop. "I never said you weren't human, Vis. I only said those things, because you know what the feelings mean, but you don't know what it means to you." I say putting my reached out hand to rest on my lap.
I smiled, knowing I would loose despite my winning queen "Vis, you are human. But one that's confused, you're still discovering these new feelings and in order to do that... you need to lose a bit." I ignore my shining queen and put my hand towards my useless pawn placing it one step forward, to achieve nothing. Surrendering my king to him, "Because part of being human is to live and learn."
Vision looks at my surrendering move in disbelief, then looks at me. "Wanda..." my heart flutters when he finally addresses me by my first name. He sighs, then smiles not in a polite matter, but in a matter where I didn't feel cold, but warm. "You're right, I have so much to learn about you humans. Your species are surely difficult to understand."
I giggle, "Y-Yeah..."
Vis smiles warmly, "But, I'm glad I have you to help me." he gives me my chess pieces back. "Another round?"
"Hahaha- sure..." I laughed, I can't let him say that in front of other people. I watch him rearrange his pieces back to their according places.
"Hey Vis?"
"Yes, Wanda?"
"Don't ever call me by my last name!!"
"I am so sorry, I'll make sure to never do that, Miss.Wanda" Vision chuckles, looking smug.
"OH YOU LITTLE-" I giggle smacking him on the arm lightly.
