06: Crest

"Miran, something happened!" I heard Haerin shout.

I tiredly opened my eyes, forcefully throwing my blanket off my body; the warm, cozy feeling left my body. I stomped to the door, unlocking it and swinging it open, quite annoyed.

"What,"I whined, irritated, "what possibly has to be this urgent for you to disrupt my sleep?"

"You don't have to be grumpy. You can go back to sleep when we come back." She scoffed.

"Where are we going at this time?" I rubbed my itchy eyes and yawned. Haerin pushed pass me and invited herself inside my room.

"Ms. Lee told me something that happened while she was getting the results back from some of the artifacts we found." Her voice sounded like she had discovered a species that was supposed to be extinct, but wasn't.

"What is it?" I started to worry at what the possibilities of the results were that were so shocking.

"I'll explain to you on the way there," She started to walk back over to the door, hastily, "get your shoes and jacket it on. Quick!" I hurriedly got shoved my shoes on and grabbed my jacket and keys.

We practically sprinted to the lobby, trying not to cause much of a ruckus so the other residents wouldn't scold us. I started heading towards the elevator, but Haerin grabbed my arm, dragging me to the stairs. "We don't have time to wait for the elevator, we have to take the stairs." Her pace got faster, I almost tripped over my feet just trying to keep up.

She pushed the hefty door that led to the staircase open. We rushed down the stairs, taking quick glimpses at the floor numbers; waiting until we reached the sign that held the word lobby on it. My chest started to burn and my side had a jabbing pain in it. It was getting harder to breath the more we ran down the steep stairs. I was gasping for air, hoping we were almost to the lobby.

"Miran, you're really out of shape." Haerin mocked through quick breaths.

"Me?" I gave her a astonished look, "what about you? You aren't too good yourself." I looked down at my feet, making sure I wouldn't fall from the fast movements down the stairs.

After what felt like forever, Haerin's running abruptly stopped. I looked up and I realized we were at the door, finally. I followed behind Haerin as she pushed the door open, revealing the room we've been longing for.

"Oh, there you are," I heard a familiar voice, "we were waiting for you. Now that your here I guess we can leave." We turned to the voice, discovering that it belonged to Minhyuk. He gestured us to go to the direction of the doors that led to outside. We made our way there, not slowing down, as we were still in a hurry to get there. Minhyuk and Taehyung followed close behind, not at all slow either.

Once we were outside, we darted to our cars. I rapidly got in and started the car. Haerin swiftly entered as well, she acquired her phone out of her pocket, making Ms. Lee aware that we were coming. I quickly started to back up, steadily making it to the road.

As I drove up to the traffic light, it started to pour down rain. It sounded like tiny pebbles hitting the windshield. I turned on the windshield, the traffic light turned green, the rain making it seem blurry. The road became slick so I had to be extra cautious, but I still speeded towards our building.

"Anyways, what is so urgent?" I blurted out, my voice was muffled by the loud, chaotic rain.

"Oh yeah," She began, "well when Ms. Lee was analyzing the artifacts more she found something strange. The sword and the shield had the same symbol, not to mention the stone of the cave we found Taehyung did too. When she looked at the symbol more closely she discovered what it might mean, and who it belonged to."

"Really," I was intrigued, "so what did she find?"

"Well, in the symbol it shows a pair of wings and a vine wrapped around them. There was indeed people who lived on the island a long time ago... Yaoguai."

"What," I responded in disbelief, "that's all fake though, it's just silly fiction for children. If it's real, what does the symbol represent?"

"I was shocked too. We don't exactly know if it's true or not, it's just an assumption. About what the symbol represents; Ms. Lee did some research and found that the supposedly Yaougui, Moguai things were in fact celestial beings who had wings. However, a lot of the Moguai, which were the evil ones, didn't have wings because they were taken away along with their immortality and other special, majestic things when they betrayed the Yaoguai. The vine represents how they were trapped because a lot of them were taken captive by the Moguai and so they didn't really feel free and safe; which means that they felt like they were tangled up by vines and they couldn't escape, as hard as they tried, they just couldn't." She explained, telling every little detail she learned.

I was in complete disbelief, I thought about how everything Taehyung and Haerin said was true. We reached the building, the lights still shone through the windows in some areas. I turned the roaring car on, looking out the window to see the rain was still pouring. I quickly opened the door and closed it again so rain wouldn't sneakily make its way into the car. I hastily trudged to shelter, to get away from the rain. Haerin quickly strolled behind me, followed by Taehyung and Minhyuk who suddenly appeared.

We sauntered to the lab where Ms. Lee and a few other workers were proceeding to observe at the artifacts.
As our presence was noticed Ms. Lee glided towards us.

"Good you're all here, we need to discuss things about the objects you found," She said, "I assume Haerin told you what was going on?" Minhyuk and I nodded, Taehyung quietly observing the conversation. She gave an approving smile and she gestured us to follow.

She led us to her computer that had an image on the screen, it was the same one as the one in the cave on the island. I looked behind me to see what Taehyung was doing. He was staring at the screen, bloodlust in his eyes.

"This image here is a painting of a battle that happened 500 years ago between the Yaoguai and Moguai." Ms. Lee explained as she watched us observe the picture before us.
