It had been maybe a month after the car 'accident' and Matthias' death didn't hang so thick anymore. The Norwegian government aided Denmark in it's horrible stock fall, giving Norway temporary control over the other country.
Lukas was in the kitchen, watching Tino hurry about as he opened each cabinet to put things on his growing grocery list. Berwald was right across from him, not liking the small smile that was obviously hidden behind the Norwegian's dull eyes. Tino looked back at the two.
"Do you guys need anything?" He asked, moving his finger back and forth between them. Berwald only shook his head and Lukas shrugged. This made Tino roll his eyes in frustration as he shut the cabinet door. "You guys are no help." He mumbled under his breath.
"Did you write down Butter?"
Tino looked down at the list on his phone. "...shit You're right." He cursed quietly, quickly adding that to the list. "Well then, I'll grab Emil and us two will go to the store. You sure you guys don't want to come?" He asked, about to leave the kitchen. They both shook their heads, Lukas giving the small excuse that he was going to visit Arthur and Vladimir and was going to leave in a few minutes. So the Finn just left to get Emil.
Once the two were gone, Ber cleared his throat before speaking rather quietly, as if someone could be listening in on their conversation. "It's really suspicious."
"Berwald..." Lukas hummed, looking the Swede in the eyes. "There's a lot of things in this world that is suspicious, you have to be more specific." He stated with a plain tone, taking a sip of his tea. Berwald only stared back at him, sitting his glasses down.
"Matthias. His damage compared to your own doesn't add up." Ber's usually calm and emotionless voice wavered a little into the angrier side.
"...So?" Lukas couldn't hide the anxiety in his voice. His heart pounded against his chest as he looked down at the warm mug in his cold hands. He couldn't have known... if he did...
"Lukas, this is going to sound weird. Did you kill my brother?" Berwald stared at him expectantly, as if he thought Lukas would just stand up and admit to suffocating his friend. On the contrary, Lukas stayed quiet. Dread was building in his throat and escaped in a small sob. There wasn't a chance to stop the hot and salty tears that spilled from his paling eyes. They had gotten noticeably lighter... Ber just watched, sadness and disappointment lacing his features as he put his glasses back on. "Herregud..."
Lukas broke down, sliding off his chair and letting sobs wrack his body. He was mumbling incoherent Norwegian to himself as he screamed into his hands. Berwald stood up, backing up from the broken down male in front of him, and reaching for the handle to the back door. He planned to get outside and call the authorities... even if Lukas was like family to him, he just lost that respect.
As Lukas continued crying he kept talking as well. Saying things like 'It made me do it' 'I can't remember' and other things you would only hear from a crazy person. His head shot up as he heard the click of the door shutting. This caused him to panic. Berwald was going to tell everyone. Tino and Emil would hate him. He'd go to jail. Berwald knew and soon so would everyone else...
We have to fix that.
Lukas stumbled but stood up, flinging the door open and watching as Berwald was already half-way across the back yard. He slammed the door shut behind him and started to run towards the Swede, pouncing and tackling him to the cold and snowy ground beside the pile of wood. It wasn't a very well thought out plan, but he had to buy himself some time. The Norwegian yelped as he was flipped over and slammed back on the ground. Before Ber could stand up Lukas yanked him down by his tie and they collided heads. This threw the Swede off and Lukas was once again on top of him. He held a grip on the male's neck, taking each punch. He couldn't feel any of it.
Lukas' eyes wandered over to the ax sticking up from the log. It wasn't that far. He knows how to hold one of those. He rolled off Berwald, who wasted no time getting up. But as the taller male turned around the last thing he saw was a pair of pastel purple eyes and cold, sharp metal. Then it was nothing but darkness and a few seconds of pain. Lukas didn't stop, hitting Berwald's cold body repeatedly before throwing the ax as far as he could. He picked Ber up and started to drag him into the woods, stopping at an old deer thicket and shoving him in. Lukas used his magic to set the brush on fire and started running in the opposite direction.
It took a body 7 hours to burn. He had to make sure Emil and Tino weren't home again for at least 3 more hours because then Berwald would be unrecognizable. As Lukas passed the bloody snow he mumbled a little spell that lifted the blood. He caught it in his shirt and continued to run until he got inside the house. He stripped himself of his clothes and threw them into the trash, running up to his room and changing as quickly as he could. The two would be gone for at least a couple of hours alone so if he could just maybe stall them when they got home... he fixed his hair and walked out of the house, going to his car. He got in and drove off to meet with Arthur and Vladimir... just as he said he would.
He only stayed at Arthur's house for maybe an hour, saying his goodbyes and leaving. Once halfway between his destinations, he started to chew his lip with anxiety... until his car stopped. His heart leaped, this was his chance to stall them. He called Tino, leaving his car.
"Hello?"
"Hey, my car broke down. can you come and get me before you guys reach home?"
There was a sound of hesitation as if Tino were checking where they were currently at.
"Yeah, we can come to get ya. Where are you?"
After maybe 30 minutes Tino and Emil finally showed up. Lukas slipped into the backseat and sighed to himself in relief.
Once home Lukas helped carry everything inside and even faked concern when he 'noticed' Berwald wasn't home. He was lying, saying Ber would come home in maybe a few hours, he was the only one who knew, Berwald wasn't ever coming home. Just like Matthias.
Maybe the Dane in question found Mom already.
