A/N: Based on the song I posted above.

It had been quite a night for Alexander Hamilton.

Months and months of shady "business deals" finally caught up to him, and he had been on the run from a band of thugs who wanted their money. It was stupid of them to expect money in the first place, Alex figured, but he wasn't about to tell them that. Anyway, he hid away in a little bar on the edge of town and used the money on him to drink away his stress. Several drinks later- it's not like he was counting- his problems felt miles away.

Of course, they all came back to him when he woke up later that night. Hungover and dazed, he staggered out the door and scanned the scene in puzzlement. He had no place to spend the night, and he couldn't hang around outside long; those guys could still be nearby. Not to mention, it looked like the car he had stolen had been reclaimed. What was he supposed to do? When his eyes adjusted to the light, he realized he recognized this area. Help may not be far away. That is, if she didn't slam the door in his face.

  "Alex?"

  "Hey, Eliza,"

Typically, it was against Eliza Schuyler's principles to let in grizzly, hungover men into her house in the middle of the night. Especially when that man was her ex.

  "What are you doing here?"

She was just as pretty as he remembered. Alex sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. "Would it be okay if I spent the night here? I'm in no shape for driving... and I've got no place to go if I was..."

Eliza studied her former love and puffed an annoyed sigh out of her nose. He hadn't changed; still running around, still getting into trouble. Since they broke up, Eliza had been working hard as a nurse and dedicated much of her time to a nearby orphanage. She had grown up. Why hadn't he?

"You can trust me. I'll be good," Alex said earnestly. "I'll do whatever you tell me to. And I won't drink a drop, I promise."

Eliza rested her tired head on the doorway and thoughtfully brushed her cheek with her knuckles. He still wore that quirky, crooked smile that had always made her want to smile, too.

"You were my best girl, Eliza," Alex said earnestly. "I'm sorry I had to go and screw everything up." If he hadn't been, well, him, they might've been still together. Alex often wondered what that would have been like.

Eliza could feel her cheeks get warm. In an instant, she was brought back to the good times they had shared. She couldn't bring herself to leave him out in the cold.

"Oh, alright." She opened the door wider, and Alex stepped inside. As Eliza went to the closet to get him a blanket, Alex put his hands on his hips and looked around at her little house. It had been the first time in quite a long time that he had been in a place this nice. Eliza was pretty amazing, he realized, to let him stay. He smiled to himself.

"Thanks, 'Liza," he said when she returned.

Eliza said nothing, but gave a little half-smile as she draped the blanket onto the couch. Alex dropped himself onto the couch, letting his body sink into the squishy upholstery.

"Hey, 'Liza," he said as she went to leave. "Tomorrow, let's drive around town. Let the cops chase us around, just like we used to."

Eliza rolled her eyes and smirked. "Goodnight, Alex." She went off to bed without another word.

Alex chuckled. It was good to be back here. He hadn't realized how much he had missed Eliza. Maybe they could try things again. Do it the right way. He yawned and rolled over, drifting off to a sweet, full sleep. He couldn't remember the last time he slept so soundly.

See you in the morning, 'Liza.
