The next day, Ember and Albus were walking to their next class. They just finished positions and were on their way to defense against the dark arts. Ember made a conversation with Albus on the way before feeling someone shove into her. She looked over her shoulder, seeing it was a Slytherin boy. Ember was about to go after him, but Albus got her by the shoulder.
"Hey, just let him go." He said before he turned her around a bit.
"Ugh, I can't stand him. Just because he is afraid of losing the game doesn't mean he has to be a git!" She yelled, turning back around when she did, so the Slytherin boy could hear. This seemed to work since he turned around and started to make is way over to Ember.
"Bloody hell..." She muttered to herself.
"Hey, come on already," Albus told her, still trying to pull her away. Though Ember stood right where she was, not budging from her spot.
She pulled her wand out, having it ready for something. She glared at him as he got closer, and followed him with her eyes when he calmly seemed to walk right past her as if he were mocking that she wouldn't do anything.
She pointed her wand up, but Albus grabbed her wrist. "If you do anything, you won't be able to play in the game. And that's what he wants. So just take a deep breath and let's get to class."
Ember slowly lowered her wand before looking over at her friend. She did just as he said. She took a deep breath before nodding. "You're right. I will be able to show him whos better after I win anyway. Let's get going." She said, And after Albus let go of her wrist, they both hurried to their next class.

Once they arrived, they quickly sat in their tables. Though they don't have seats next to each other like most of their classes, Albus seemed to enjoy defense against the dark arts. He watched as the teacher spoke about the topic they were going to learn about."Today, everyone, we are going to learn about something that only you seventh years are allowed to be taught. The three unforgivable curses. Ms. Demoore, can you tell me what one of them is?" The professor asked.
Ember quickly looked up. "Hmm...well, I know one. It's the Crucio curse." She answered. "I know its used to torture...to give the thing unbearable pain."
"Yes, very good." The professor said, turning around to write it down on the chalkboard. After they turned back around, they looked back at Ember for a moment before getting out an enlarged blue butterfly from a jar. The teacher set it down gently before pulling their wand out.
"Crucio!" The teacher yelled. This got everyone's attention. People watched as the butterfly struggled with moving out of will. The wings twitched, and every second seemed to hurt the poor insect even more. Ember, along with a few other students frowned a bit before the teacher finally pulled the wand away.
The professor looked around the room before their eyes seemed to set on another student. "Mr. Scott, please tell me another curse." They said.
The Hufflepuff boy looked up before frowning. "...Well...I know there's imperio..." He muttered as if he didn't want to be heard. "It has the power to control..."
"Correct you are." The teacher said before turning around and writing it down on the board. They pointed their wand to the butterfly again. "Imperio!" They yelled, and just like that, the creature was now in their control.
As the professor moved their wand, the butterfly went around the class. They made it stay on the head of Ravenclaw female for a moment before making their way to a Slytherin boy. Everyone in the class watched. It seemed harmless until the teacher was seemingly about to slam the butterfly in the wall, but stopped it before it could happen. The teacher brought it back to the front before pulling the wand back, letting the butterfly free from the curse.
"Hmm...Mr. Dumbledore. Maybe you could give us the last curse." They said, making Ember turn her head to face him as well.
"The last one...it has to be...Avada Kedavra. The killing curse." Albus answered, watching as the teacher wrote the last one on the board.
"That's right." The teacher answered before pointing their wand at the butterfly. Everyone knew what was coming now. Silence lingered as the teacher put an end to the bugs short time span. "Avada Kedavra!" They yelled, watching as a light shot through the professor's wand, making the bug stone dead.
"And like that, with two words, you could put an end to someone's life." They said before putting their wand back in their pocket. "Now you all might be wondering why we are talking about this, and more importantly, why I demonstrated it. That is because, in the real world, these spells will be used. Yes, they are illegal, but, that doesn't mean people don't torture, control, or kill others. Now turn to page four hundred and seventy-three, we will be learning about the history and uses of these spells."

Later on, right after the class was over, Ember waited for Albus outside the door. After he came out they made their way to the great hall since it was time for lunch, which sounded much better than learning about morbid spells. Well, for Ember at least.
