Before they could even start to head back to the doors, Rachael got the odd sensation that someone was watching her.She turned around quickly to find the same woman from earlier peeing at her from the shadows in the hall.
"Her again..." Rachael mumbles.
"Who?" Beckett asks confused, looking around at the empty hallway.
Without saying another word Rachael ran down the hallway after her without warning.
"Hey, Wait!" Beckett shouts chasing after her.
Rachael was following her down the halls by just the quick little glints of her skirt as she turned around corners. "Come on, Beckett! Keep up!"
She turned around a corner, in just enough time to see a door slam shut. Beckett was right behind her and she swung the door open again easily prepared to confront the woman, but was instead met with an empty hallway. "Dammit!"
Rachael looked around the hallway confused before turning to Beckett. "Where could she have gone? There's no exit!"
"I don't think that's quite the case..." He says, staring straight at the wall in front of him, making Rachael tilt her head to the side confused. The longer they looked at the wall the more of a headache it gave them.
"Ugh...I feel it too..." Rachael says, observing the wall.
"I suspect there is a door here, hidden by an invisibility ward. It's the only logical explanation or this..." Beckett studied it carefully, placing his hand on it and running his hand over it like he was wiping steam off a mirror. The wall slowly melted away to reveal a door.
"Beckett, you're a genius! What would I have done without you?" Rachael smiles, trying to open it to no avail. She looked back up at him, but this time he put up his hands in defense.
"Don't look at me. I am certainly not helping you break into a locked room." Beckett says.
"Ugh! But we're so close! I need to know why this woman's following me! She might have answers about...about me!" Rachael huffs.
"That's not my problem. Why should I break the rules just for you?" Beckett argues.
"Beckett I know a few ways I could make it up to you..." Rachael smirks, getting closer to him, and walking her fingers up his chest, slipping her fingers underneath his collared shirt he wore under his blazer, unbuttoning the top button, playfully. She could feel his heart beat quicken and could see the panic growing in his eyes. The strange warm feeling in his stomach he only gets around her returning, but stronger this time.
"You-...I...What?" Beckett stutters, his voice faltering as he spoke.
"Calm down, I'm kidding..." Rachael says taking a step back from him, his breathing starting to return to normal. "Mostly..."
His breathing hitched again at her addition. "Well...that just...and we..." Beckett's cheeks flushed a deep dark shade of red, his eyes meeting hers. It took him a moment to look away, clearing his throat as his emotions started to settle a bit. "Ahem! You wanted me to unlock this door, yes? I believe I can do that easily enough, being a Metal-Att."
He closed his eyes, doing his best to center himself after their little interaction. Once he felt composed enough he tapped to fingers on the doorknob.
"That should do it." Beckett says, as the door unlocks with a soft click.
"My hero." Rachael teased, smiling at him. "Thank you!"
"Don't mention it. Seriously, let's never speak of this again." Beckett says, insistingly.
Rachael put a hand on the door mentally preparing herself for what may be inside. "Here goes nothing..."
She pushed it open and stepped into a room, that looks like it should be on an episode of hoarders. The woman nowhere to be found. Rachael looked around the room full of clutter.
"Woah...is that a genie lamp? And is that a scarab beetle? What is this place?" Rachael mumbles.
"I had no idea this room was here. It's not on any of the school's published schematics..." Beckett says, looking around at the junk yard of a room.
Rachael step further inside and stumbled over a bag strewn in the middle of the floor. Upon looking inside it all she could spot was a bunch of random and useless junk, until she spotted a ripped half of a photo.
She observed it carefully, turning to look back at Beckett when she realized the picture of of a man and a baby. A baby with the same birth mark of her. "This...It's a picture of me!"
"How can you be sure?" Beckett asks, walking closer to her to look down at the picture.
"That's my birthmark. I've never met anyone else with the same sun mark on their shoulder." Rachael says, looking up at him. "Why does she have a picture of me?"
"I-I don't have an answer for you, but we should get out of here before we get caught." Beckett says softly.
"Yeah, yeah...you're right." Rachael nods, following him out the door.
They started to walk back to their dormitory together. Rachael's mind was racing with scenarios on why that strange woman had a picture of her.
"You know...this is gonna sound idiotic, but magickal detention was more enjoyable than I had anticipated it to be." Beckett smiled over at her as they walked down the dark cobblestone path.
His voice drew her from her thoughts and made her forget about them for the time being. "Yeah, who knew organizing the library would provide so much entertainment."
"As much as I love the library, I will be the first to admit that our task was torturous. Though your slow-witted company was entertaining to be around." Beckett says.
"Thanks?" Rachael laughs, not sure if that was an insult or a complement.
The corners of his mouth tilted up slightly as he tried to retain a smile. They walked the rest of the way in a comfortable silence, there hands brushing against each other's every so often,
Beckett held the door open for her when they arrived at their building. They walked inside greeting the R.A. as they walked towards their dorm rooms.
They turned down the left hallway and Rachael walked over to her door. "Well, this is me."
Beckett turned to her with a small smile. "Goodnight, Rachael."
"Goodnight, Beckett." Rachael smiles, mocking his formalness teasingly.
He chuckled, before continuing down the hallway to his dorm, as she ducked inside her.
