New Years Emotions

The silence was suddenly killed by the sound of rustling grass. I looked behind me and I saw Asriel calling Chara over to the forest. Oh, they are going to check out the stars now that they could. I have to say, they look pretty cute together, scurrying off like that. I and Sans would have to check it out for ourselves later because I knew Sans loved space and it was not very common to see a sight like that; especially in the big, bold city of Ebbot. Now that I think about that, that is probably why Sans did not want to move very far into the city. I would leave Chara and Asriel alone for now, they needed it.

After a few minutes, I asked Sans if he wanted to watch the stars before New Years. He happily abided and stood up swiftly before holding out his arm for me to walk into. I did not hesitate to follow along and he wrapped his arm around my chest tightly for a second—giving me a quick hug—before lowering down so his hand was resting on my waist.

I guess we made very loud sounds, walking in the grass because Asriel and Chara turned around at the same time to meet us. "Hiya!" I greeted them "we just wanted to check out the stars with both of you if you do not mind".

Asriel looked at Chara and Chara nodded her head. "Actually, sis, we had our time, we best be going back; only five minutes until midnight!" and with that, Asriel and Chara left.

"Well, I guess they will not be joining us..." I thought out loud. Sans shrugged.

"I like your bro but I'd prefer it this way" Sans plainly told me.

I turned my body to face him and wrapped my arms around his neck before responding, "well that is good on your part, I guess". I moved my hands down to his shoulders and rested my head sideways on his shoulder. Sans returned the favor by hugging me around my middle and looks up at the starry sky curiously.

None of us said anything for a bit until I questioned Sans about something I have always been a little curious about. "Sans, why do you like stars so much?". Sans paused for a while.

"Well...I like stars and space because it's exciting" Sans answered after a moment.

  "Can you be more specific?"

"I like space because it's so big and mysterious; it can be scary at times because it's so mysterious but that's also what makes it so exciting. I have other reasons for liking it but that's my main reason" Sans admitted honestly. I never thought about it like that. Space really is a thrilling place.

I chuckled. "I guess you can not ever get bored with space because you always have more to explore" I observed.

  "Correct" Sans affirmed.

"You asked your question so I'm gonna ask mine," Sans told me after a moment of silence. I lifted my head and titled it, looking at him curiously. "So, what's up with this?" Sans touched the ribbon that I tied my side ponytail with. "It's cute but what did you do it for? I've never seen you with your hair different so, what's the special occasion?". I gave a sheepish smile; I forgot I even had my hair like that. I was smiling because he noticed it and most of all because he said it looked cute; my look did look good to him! I was also a bit embarrassed for the reason of doing it.

  "You" I answered simply.

  "What?"

I giggled. "Yeah, you're the occasion". Sans did not respond and instead looked back at the sky thoughtfully.

He turned back to me and asked, "what do you mean?". I turned my face away, bashfully smiling and trying to hide the blush that was creeping onto my face. I should have expected this and been prepared for this.
