HUDSON'S POV
I sat on the couch, and blurred the voices of Josh and Andrea scolding me out.
Foster child? For what?
I know I fucked up, but I would never admit it.
"Are you even listening?" Andrea punched my arm.
I snapped back to reality and rubbed my arm.
"So what if she's a foster child. She wasn't wanted and that's my problem? Okay then." I blurted out and rolled my eyes. I got up and walked away from them and into the kitchen.
"Why are you such an asshole? It's obvious she's been through a lot. Do you not see the way she flinches whenever someone tries to touch her?" Josh got angry.
Why is he so invested? Just because she's Andrea's new "sister"?
"Whatever man." I chuckled.
"I'm going to go check up on her." Andrea sighed and left the room.
Once we heard Andrea's footsteps slowly make their way up the stairs, Josh looked at me with disappointment.
"Just because you're hurt, doesn't mean you could hurt other people."
"Sorry for being such baggage." I sarcastically said.
"No one said you're baggage Hudson-"
"You know, just because I get beat up by my father doesn't mean I need your pity! You're just my best friend and I trust you. Everyone else fucked me over before. If I'm just going to be scolded for something I did to a poor little girl, then I should just leave!" I walked out of the kitchen and out the door.
ANDREA'S POV
I walked up the stairs and towards Brynn's room. I knocked on the door, but there was no answer. The door wasn't locked, so I opened it slightly and peeked inside.
Nothing.
I walked in and towards her bathroom.
"Brynn?" I asked with a calm voice.
I could hear the sobs from her cries from behind the door.
"I'm fine Andrea. You could go." She croaked out.
I walked inside and saw blood on the floor, and fear immediately swarmed over me.
"What did you do, Brynn?" I looked around and saw that a razor covered in blood was in the sink.
I looked down to her at the floor, and she had a scared expression on her face. I sat down on the floor in front of her and tried to look at her leg.
"Andrea please stop!" She sobbed and tried to pry me away.
"Brynn let me see!" I had tears now running down my eyes. "Brynn please! Let me help you!"
She was covering her legs, while I tried to pull a leg down.
"No one could help me! Please just.. stop." She gave out and just started crying more than she originally was.
She was in her underwear, but the scars..
The scars were visible.
They were on both thighs, some looked faded, others looked previous, and then there were the recent ones.
"Why do you do this?" I asked, with tears in my eyes, and a lump in my throat.
Brynn didn't answer, but instead tilted her head back.
I walked out of her bathroom and looked around her room. Only one picture stood, and it was of a man and a pregnant woman. This must be her biological parents.
What caused her to be like this? Of course foster care is a lot, but to the point of self-harm? I don't know.
"Please, just get out. Let me fix myself." Brynn stood up and looked at me from across the room.
I nodded and walked out of her room, and into the hallway.
She's really damaged, I thought to myself then began to tear up again. And I don't know if I could help.
I walked into the bathroom of the hallway, and cleaned my face. I put in eyedrops to make my eyes less red, and fixed up my makeup. Once I was done, I walked downstairs, and began to act like nothing happened.
"How is she?" Josh asked.
"She's.. She's okay." I hesitated and sat down on the couch.
"Where's Hudson?" I asked, confused.
"He went to take a walk." He let a deep breath out and put a hand through his hair.
—
It's been ten minutes. We were in the living room, waiting for Brynn. The front door opened and Hudson walked inside.
"How is she?" He asked with sympathy.
I stood quiet, still in shock from what Brynn has been doing.
Footsteps came down the stairs, and there was Brynn, with a smile on her face.
"Brynn." I stood up and looked at her confused. She walked up to me and grabbed my hand away from Josh. We stood where we couldn't be heard.
"Let's pretend that you didn't see that, okay?" She said with a fake smile, begging me to not say anything.
"But you need to talk about it-"
"I don't need to talk about it. I'm fine." She shrugged then walked towards the kitchen, obviously lying.
"Brynn please. You could talk to me." I whispered loudly and chased her into the kitchen.
HUDSON'S POV
"You good man?" Josh asked with sincerity.
"Just wondering what happened to her. I didn't even do anything bad."
"It's built up pain that can cause this kind of behavior. She was shaken up around you."
"I'm going to figure her out, Josh."
"Leave her alone. She doesn't need anymore pain than what she probably has."
"What are you saying? I cause pain now?"
"No Hudson. Just listen to me!" He got frustrated. "It doesn't even have to be intentional, but you hurt people. Either with words or actions, but you do."
I looked down at the floor and took in his words. Even with my existence, my father hates me.
I stood up and looked at him before leaving the house-
"I won't hurt her."
