Chapter 3: When Light Becomes Dark

The next morning, I woke up in my bed, with last night's clothes still on. Yui hummed, folding our laundry in the back.

"You're awake," she beamed, and then explained yesterday's situation. Apparently, I knocked myself out, and Yui dragged me home. At the same time, the restaurant crowned Feng as their savior and distributed desserts on the house. Yuki, being the sneak he was, left with countless cakes and pastas. In other words, we never paid for fine dining.

"Sorry, Yui. I must've been a lot to handle."

"Well, that's not all. You might be an otome protagonist," my roommate suggested. "That's the 'change' your doctor claimed, no?"

I heated up some pasta and crawled back into bed. Yui had a point. Elodie and three bachelors sat on thrones because they were the Student Council. Yet, with their invincible selves, they still needed help! From me!

But if I really were an otome protagonist, fulfilling my duties would put my life on the line. One wrong decision, and a fanclub will orchestrate my murder, or a monster might slice me to pieces, or a love interest might sacrifice their life for my sake.

"What good can I do if I get the bad ending?" I shuddered. "The ones that end with death?"

Yui paused for a moment. "True, that's something to think about. How about this," she proposed. "We'll get rid of the red flags."

"What do you mean?"

"Remember what Elodie said back at the restaurant? She thinks someone named Aila Lee's out to get her. If you're going Adam's route, she'll obviously be an obstacle."

"Oh my God - Yui, you're a genius! And didn't Feng mention Alessa Zhang?"

"Yes, exactly! But there's one problem."

"What's that?"

"I'm not sure about Paris. He's really likable, so I don't know about his route's obstacles."

"Maybe just the fan clubs?"

"You're right. Paris interacts with his fans the most, so someone has to be close to him!"

I shrugged. Who knows? With our current information, we could only investigate for more, so Yui and I formulated a plan: she'd dig up dirt about Aila, and I'd do the same for Alessa. How? The regular eavesdropping, maybe talking to some secondary sources - anything to dodge a bad end.

"Paris's fanclub has social media," Yui scrolled through her phone. "Who runs it...ah, Himeko."

"What?"

"Just got a text from my brother. He got three free tickets to Alessa Zhang's concert -"

"HOW?!"

She simply shook her head. "I wouldn't question it. It's this Saturday, and by the look on your face, we're going.
